Enjoy Japanese tea and Illini kingyokukan, meet the new Japan House interns, and celebrate the end of summer break! 🌿✨

🍵 Iced sweetened matcha with kingyokukan: $14
🌸 Cherry sencha with kingyokukan: $10

Kingyokukan means “precious jewel” and is a colorful Japanese summer sweet made with seasonal fruits such as blueberries and mandarin oranges. 💎🍊🫐

No pre-orders are needed. Just walk up while supplies last! Cash, cards, and tap-to-pay are accepted. All proceeds support Japan House programming.

Look for our pop-up in the south driveway and stop by for tea and Illini kingyokukan! No pre-orders, just walk-ups, and we'll be there until we are sold out! As summer break ends, we are pleased to welcome new and returning Illini to stop by the gardens, meet the new Japan House interns, and enjoy Japanese tea and sweets! Note: the building will be closed due to ongoing construction.

The Matcha Café menu features kingyokukan and your choice of iced sweetened matcha by Marukyu Koyamaen ($14) or cherry sencha by the Republic of Tea ($10). Cash, card, and tap-to-pay are accepted. All proceeds support Japan House programming.

Kingyoku translates to "precious jewel," and kan is a shortened form of yōkan. Thus, kingyokukan is a colorful sweet that uses seasonal fruits like blueberries or mandarin oranges, and it can be formed into various shapes to make a special summer treat.

🌿The Lake House In Crystal Lake Park, Urbana Park District is definitely a wonderful third space between work and home. 🏡💼 It is a great place to decompress, regroup, and connect with nature. 🌳✨
