Today we remember St. Gregory the Great, most widely remembered for his association with Gregorian Chant.
But he was also a champion of the poor. During his lifetime Rome was devastated by war, plague, famine, and widespread poverty. While pope, he invited the poor to dine at his table with him and treated the Church's wealth as property entrusted to the Church for the care of the poor.
In our own time of instability, perhaps St. Gregory's example can help us love those in need.
