Last month, this community helped us serve 611 vulnerable children navigating trauma across Southern California. 611 kids who needed someone to show up for them. And you did.

September is already here and the requests are already coming in. This month our children navigating trauma are asking for blankets to sleep with at night, water bottles for their day, headphones and earbuds for a little peace in the middle of hard moments, portable speakers, LEGO sets, and art and craft kits because healing also looks like having something that is just for you.

These are real requests from real kids. And we need your help making sure every single one gets filled with dignity, one kiddo at a time.

July was a big month. And this community made every bit of it possible.

611 vulnerable children in Southern California were seen, supported, and cared for. Not as numbers. As individuals, each one met exactly where they were with exactly what they needed.

• 611 Warriors served across San Bernardino, Riverside, Los Angeles, and Orange Counties

• 117 back to school wishes filled so vulnerable kids could walk into the new school year feeling ready

• 89 kids had a birthday that actually felt like one

• 55 resource bags packed with intention and given with dignity, one kiddo at a time

• 2,285 resources distributed

• 203 hours volunteered by people who gave their time to children they have never met but chose to show up for anyway

July also marked the heart of our 99 Wishes drive. Because no child should walk into a new school year without what they need to feel ready.

Thank you. To every volunteer, every donor, every person who shared our mission with someone new. This is what showing up big for kids looks like, and it only happens because this community refuses to look away.

We get this question a lot. What actually happens when you show up to volunteer at Warrior for Children?

It is simpler than you think, and more meaningful than you might expect.

You will wrap a birthday gift in a child’s favorite color and write a card for a kid you have never met. You will assemble hygiene kits, fold brand new clothes, and roll blankets for resource bags headed to vulnerable children navigating trauma across Southern California. You will help reset shelves so when the next urgent request comes in, we are already ready.

You might come alone or bring a friend. Either way, if it is your first time, we will show you around before you jump in.

No experience required. Just two hours of community service and a willingness to show up for vulnerable children in San Bernardino, Riverside, Los Angeles, and Orange Counties.

Trauma does not take a holiday.

It does not slow down in January when the decorations come down. It does not pause in February, March, or April. It does not wait for a seasonal drive or a giving campaign to catch up with it.

Children navigating trauma across Southern California need support every single day of the year, not just the ones that make it easy to give.

That is why monthly giving is one of the most powerful things you can do. Not because it is the biggest gift. Because it is the most consistent one. It means when an urgent request comes in on a random Tuesday or a holiday weekend, we are already ready.

Consistency is what these children need most. Monthly donors are how we deliver it.

Meet Cheryl. Nearly four years in and she will tell you straight up, this work is not just a job.

She thinks about the number of kids in foster care across Southern California and calls it what it is. Heartbreaking. But instead of looking away, she shows up every single day to make sure the children Warrior serves know they are not forgotten. That someone sees them as the beautiful, unique individuals they are.

Ask her what these kids have taught her and she does not hesitate. They just want to have fun and be loved. That simple truth is what keeps her going.

When she is not at the Impact Center, she is exactly where her heart is. With her kids and grandchildren.

The items are just the surface. What we are really giving goes much deeper.

When a child navigating trauma receives support from Warrior for Children, what they are really receiving goes so much deeper than what fits inside a bag. It is the feeling that someone took the time to notice them. That someone chose something specifically for them. That they are not invisible in a world that has made them feel that way more times than any child should.
Showing up halfway has never been how we do things here.

The hardest part of trauma is not always what people can see. But the healing starts when a child feels seen anyway.

That is what Warrior for Children exists to do, every single day, for children across San Bernardino, Riverside, Los Angeles, and Orange Counties.
