Gateway Rescue Mission

Gateway Rescue Mission meets the needs of the homeless through the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Gateway Rescue Mission was founded by Captain Len Martin of the Jackson Fire Department in 1948. Captain Martin was compelled to help the homeless, and Gateway Rescue Mission remains faithful to the charge to this day. Offering hope through the Gospel of Jesus Christ, Gateway Rescue Mission is committed to providing those in need with shelter, food, clothing, and rehabilitation. Our programs inclu

de 40 beds for men struggling with addiction, meals for our residents and a lunch that is provided 365 days a year to serve the homeless and hungry coming in from the streets. Gateway Rescue Mission is registered with the IRS as a 501(c)(3) non-profit and religious organization, and is 100% funded by private donations from individuals, churches, foundations, and businesses. Sales of donated items at our thrift store located in Pearl, MS also helps to support our ministry.

Shoutout to First Pres Young Adults!

This past Saturday, a great group of young adults from First Presbyterian Church of Jackson, MS came out to serve lunch with us. They jumped right in, worked hard, and served our guests with so much warmth and joy. You could tell this wasn't just a task for them; they genuinely cared about the people they were serving.

It's always encouraging to see a new generation showing up ready to make a difference. First Pres Young Adults, thank you for giving up part of your Saturday to be here — y'all made a real impact, and we hope this is just the start of many more Saturdays together.

What a magnificent display of kindness!!! This is Nicole Coleman of Woman United The Movement, a shining example of compassion in action! She delivered 112 plates of food for our guests, spreading love and hope. Thank you for being a blessing and may you continue to inspire others!

At Gateway, recovery isn't just about getting sober — it's about getting ready. Ready for a job. Ready for a paycheck. Ready to stand on your own two feet again.

Some of our guys recently sat down to take their ServSafe Food Handler exam —It's not flashy, but it's foundational: this certification opens doors to real jobs in kitchens and restaurants all across Jackson.

Every certificate earned here is a small picture of a bigger truth — that God isn't done writing anyone's story. He's still in the business of restoration, one skill, one step, one test at a time.

Today was a big day at Gateway Rescue Mission!

We broke ground this morning on the new home for our New Life Program — and we couldn't be more excited about what's ahead. This 24,000-square-foot renovation will give us new dormitories, offices, classroom, and an expanded chapel/event center, allowing us to double our capacity to serve men seeking recovery from addiction right here in Jackson.

Jackson Mayor John Horhn joined us to celebrate this milestone as part of our "Restore Life to Jackson" campaign.

As Executive Director Rex Baker shared, "This new building will allow us to better serve our community by helping those seeking freedom from addiction. We're grateful to break ground on a project that will change so many more lives here in Jackson."

For 78 years, Gateway has been walking alongside our neighbors through meals, shelter, and life-changing recovery. This expansion is the next chapter in that story — and we're grateful you're part of it.

Another day, another beautiful reminder that our community shows up for one another.

Today we were blessed by a generous donation from our friends at The Blake At Township senior living community — clothing, coffee, personal care items, and more for our New Life Program and outreach efforts here in Jackson.

Grateful hearts today at Gateway Rescue Mission!

The Women of Faith Mission group from Mount Nebo Baptist Church blessed us with 15 bags of food this week — showing up for our neighbors in Jackson just like Christ calls us to. "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me" (Philippians 4:13) isn't just on our wall — it's lived out every time a group like this walks through our doors.
