10 Years of Hope, Safety, and Dignity 🏡❤️This month marks a profound milestone for our community. Ten years ago, in September 2016, CrossRoads to Hope opened its doors as the very first and only walk-in emergency overnight shelter for homeless women and children in Owensboro and Daviess County. Before 2016, there was a heartbreaking gap in our community’s continuum of care. Vulnerable moms and children facing the terrifying reality of homelessness had nowhere to turn for immediate, zero-wait-time emergency shelter. Thanks to the vision of our founder and the fierce generosity of people like you, we changed that.
Our first guests to grace our doorstep was a mother and her pregnant teenage daughter. They didn’t have a plan… they had a need. We didn’t ask for an application, we asked for their hands. We gave them a bed, told them they were safe and a promise they were not alone. In that moment, we were not just a shelter, we became family. We were able to assist this mother and daughter get into permanent housing and stabilty.
A Decade of Impact by the Numbers:
10 Years of never turning a family away due to strict application barriers or wait times. Returning and unique Women and Children who have found sanctuary, safety, and a hot meal between our walls. Thousands of nights of warmth and dignity provided to our neighbors when they needed it most. Every single night of shelter provided over the last decade has been funded 100% by local donations and community partners. This anniversary isn't just a celebration of a shelter and its programs—it’s a celebration of a community that refuses to let its neighbors fall through the cracks. It is a celebration of every volunteer who cooked a hot meal, every donor who purchased items from our wishlist, and every survivor who walked through our doors and chose a path toward healing. As we look forward to the next decade, our mission remains exactly the same: to empower people through hope.

This was us… 10 years ago, the night before we opened CrossRoads to Hope Emergency Overnight Shelter for Women and Children, the first and still the only emergency shelter for women and children.
Standing in the quiet that night, it is impossible not to feel the profound weight of what the next day means. Nervous, scared, anxious… This is more than just a building; it is a promise to every woman and mother looking for a safe place to rest her head and every child who deserves to sleep without fear.
Starting September 1, 2016 there would be no barriers, no long waiting lists, and no questions asked—just an open door, a hot meal, and a soft bed.
August 31, the shelter is peaceful. September 1, it becomes a home.

Establishing Crossroads to Hope Shelter for Women and Children has been an uphill battle, but at last we can announce our opening...September 1st.
Earlier today we received a call from a woman being evicted tomorrow. And instead of turning her away, we were able to offer a solution.
But, in order to continue to lend a hand to homeless women and children, we need YOU. Community support through volunteering, monetary contributions, prayer, and raising community awareness are vital to the success of our mission.
We ask that you please consider helping our opening month get off to a good start by choosing a time to volunteer from the open times on the calendar.

CrossRoads to Hope Emergency Overnight Shelter for Women and Children is in need meals for September.
The meals would need to be prepared ahead of time and/or hot and ready meal for 25 people, this will ensure all guests and volunteers are fed. Please drop off between 7-7:30.
Drinks, plates, utensils and cups appreciated for the evening meal.

We are so grateful for the partnership with this organization and all those involved. This is and will be a great blessing to our community.

Nearly 70 pantries and soup kitchens across Daviess County serve roughly 165,000 meals every month.

About 17,000 of our neighbors are still food insecure.

Sit with both of those at once. Together they say something specific: the problem isn't that our community isn't doing enough — 165,000 meals is thousands of volunteers and thousands of quiet acts of kindness, most of them never seen by anyone outside the room. The problem is that we're doing it separately.

That's the gap we exist to close. Here's how it works ⬇️

Food comes in — from farms, grocers, manufacturers, and truckload donations that pass our region by today.

It gets sorted and stored. Dry goods now. Cold and frozen once our facility opens — that's the capability Western Kentucky has been missing, and the reason perishable food bypasses us.

It goes out to local pantries and kitchens — two dozen have joined us as Community Partners, with more signing on.

They serve families directly — in their own neighborhoods, by people those families already know and trust.

Think of it like a wheel. The pantries are the spokes. We're the hub in the middle that keeps them supplied.

We're not the ones handing out groceries. We're the ones making sure the people who do never run short. When the hub works, every spoke works better.

Thank you to Daviess County Fiscal Court for officially proclaiming September 9, 2026 as CrossRoads Inc. Day in honor of 20 years of service.
This milestone is a beautiful testament to what happens when a community refuses to let its neighbors fall through the cracks.
For 20 years, CrossRoads has been the steady heartbeat of compassion in Daviess County, transforming an act of kindness in a church basement into a lifelong sanctuary of hope.
A Legacy of Love, a Sanctuary, a Beacon of Hope and more than a shelter, CrossRoads to Hope Shelter, has provided thousands of nights of safety, warmth, and dignity for vulnerable women and children when they needed it most.
Feeding the Soul: From a humble soup kitchen to a sprawling food pantry, we have spent 20 years ensuring that no senior, child, or family in Owensboro has to face the pain of an empty plate alone.
A Community United: This anniversary is a celebration of every volunteer, donor, and advocate who looked at poverty and chose to answer with unconditional love and open doors.

Tonight was a treat for our women and children at CrossRoads to Hope.
Stacy Bratcher and her team took great care of us. Stacy was more than happy to provide and always has been when the need arises.
When the meal was delivered to the shelter, they were so excited! Yummy subs, pub chips, salad, lemonade and Rice Krispy treats!

LIHEAP Summer Subsidy applications will be accepted at Kentucky Community Action Agencies from August 3 - September 11, 2026, or until funds are depleted to help offset cooling costs with a one-time electric benefit!

Households must meet eligibility requirements, including household income of up to and including 150 percent of the Federal Poverty Guidelines to qualify for assistance. Benefits are paid directly to the household’s electric vendor. No disconnect notice, past-due bill, or eviction notice is required to apply.
