In 2011 we lost our home and my focus then became how to keep the dogs that I've rescued from going back to the shelter until they can find great homes. So we had an empty building, just 4 walls and a cement floor. 2 years prior I took in a handicapped boxer from a family whom I didn't know. This turned out to be a miracle for us, as they (Bay Mechanical) came to our rescue and donated electrician

s, plumbers, and builders so I could keep my current rescues safe and continue to grow our rescue efforts. We became State approved and 501c3 NON-PROFIT. It continues to be a very long road, but we're proud to say that we're in the unprecedented position of having the opportunity to purchase our own shelter and create the areas' ONLY 4,300 sq ft Home-Like Dog Rescue/Adoption Center! So far we have given over 2,000 dogs the precious gift of tomorrow...we rely on the kindness of those who truly care to help keep our mission alive! Sometimes things works out just as they should.....I received a call from Apollos' heartbroken mom asking to find him a new home. Her allergies made her constantly have to turn down his attempts to be her velcro pup and she wanted him to have that...Literally 90 seconds after hanging up, Karen (a G.O. volunteer, supporter, adopter...) called to let me know that she put me down as a reference to possibly adopt a dog she'd seen elsewhere after her sweet & salty "Penny" passed away....
I mentioned that sweet Apollo was scheduled to come in later that same day in case she'd be interested....after seeing his totally adorable face and knowing about his moderate energy level and SUUUPER easygoing nature she was DONE.....LOL, this boy spent about 20 minutes with me before Karen was at my door to pick up her baby! ❤️❤️❤️

Milos' Mom asked if I could take him and find a home where he could have the attention he requires and deserves...our prior adopters (of Beaux) just happened to be looking to expand their family and it's a match made in heaven! Welcome Home Milo ❤️!!!

Looking for a kitten or cat?

Chesapeake Animal Services is asking neighbors to step up and foster kittens. The shelter is hitting capacity during what staff say is shaping up to be one of the busiest kitten seasons in recent memory.

Almost 50 kittens were dropped off in just the past week alone, all under 8 weeks old. Since April 1, the shelter has taken in 224 kittens — and kitten season typically runs through the end of November.

"We're being inundated with kittens. We can't keep up with the amount that we have coming in as strays and we just, we really need Chesapeake's help," Outreach Coordinator Kasey Gallardo said.
