From Bitter to Better

From Bitter to Better FB2B is a freedom experience for women who feel bound by the hurts and disappointments of the past.

From Bitter to Better was born in January 2019 at United Family Worship Center, Hampton, VA. It was a vision given to the former Co-Pastor, Elder Brenda Stokes, to address what she
witnessed among sisters who truly loved the Lord, but were yet bound by the hurts and
disappointments of their pasts. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Lord impressed upon Elder Stokes to take this FREEDOM experience be

yond the local church in the form of a women’s conference. With the very capable and willing support of her three daughters and 3 of her granddaughters, From Bitter to Better Women’s Conference was launched as a Non-Profit, with the first conference scheduled for March of 2023.

We’re still reflecting on all that took place during Fathering Daughters. So many powerful moments, meaningful conversations, and memories were made. Here’s another look at a weekend that continues to stay with us. 💚

This time, we’re highlighting the incredible artists who helped bring the message to life through creativity, storytelling, and truth. Their gifts added depth, inspiration, and moments that won’t be forgotten.

From the FB2B Board of Directors — thank you. 💚

What took place during Fathering Daughters was more than a conference. It was a weekend filled with connection, reflection, and moments that will stay with us for a long time.

Fathers and daughters showed up, leaned in, and created space for something meaningful.

Here’s a glimpse of the weekend as we begin sharing more.

From the FB2B Board of Directors — thank you. 💚

Saturday was… truly special.

From powerful spoken word to honest conversations, from the stage play to moments of reflection and connection — every part of the day was intentional. We witnessed fathers and daughters leaning in, listening, laughing, and in many ways, beginning (or continuing) the work of restoration together.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Terrell Mercer; Arnecia Williams, Jada Fowler, and the entire play cast; Fatherhood at CDR; Trevor and Laila Lucas of Anomaly Art Studio; and GOAT SMOKE BBQ for serving with excellence.

We also thank C3 Hampton and Deacon Myron Francisco, Endtime United Ministries, United Family Worship Center (UFWC), along with all of our vendors and volunteers who helped bring this vision to life.

A special thank you to our honored guests, including Vice Mayor Steve Brown of Hampton, VA - Gov, for your presence and support.

And to everyone who attended — thank you for showing up, leaning in, and being part of such a meaningful experience.

Here’s a glimpse of Saturday as we reflect and look ahead to even more moments to share.

Mr. Oliver Walmon shares what he hopes fathers and daughters walk away with after the Barbershop Panel.

He talks about the diverse life experiences represented on the panel — men with different journeys, different stories, but a shared commitment to fatherhood.

His hope? That attendees gain perspective, practical insight, and the courage to continue the conversation long after the conference ends.

Real dialogue. Real growth.

When asked what he hopes his daughter always remembers, Terrell said:

“Don’t be afraid to still be a kid at times.”

He talked about how they still enjoy things together — go-kart racing, collecting toys, laughing, making memories.

Because growing up doesn’t mean losing your joy.
And fatherhood isn’t just guidance — it’s shared experiences.

Sometimes the greatest gift a father can give is the freedom to stay light.
