Joyce Wasner has been showing up for her community since before most of us can remember. From raising a family while earning her Master of Arts in Public Service at Governors State University in 1977, to helping over 1,400 neighbors obtain REAL ID cards as a 2024 Chicago United for Equity Fellow, her life is a testament to what it looks like to stay grounded in purpose.

Joyce is currently exploring studies in spirituality and Black studies while staying active with the Alumni Association - Governors State University, the Bronzeville / Black Chicagoan Historical Society, and St. Sabina.

The many more communities you will serve, the problems you will solve, and the lives you will touch are still ahead of you. When that time comes, we want to hear from you.

Know any college-bound students interested in healthcare? 🩺✨

Governors State University has them covered with the 2026 Summer Health Career Camp!

June 16–18, 2026 | 8:30 a.m. – 1 p.m.

This two-day camp gives students the opportunity to explore the wide range of health career programs offered at GovState while learning essential healthcare skills every medical professional should know, including CPR and basic first aid training. Participants will also take part in a field trip to a medical facility for real-world exposure to healthcare careers.
