The WELS Adventure program - Wilderness Experience, Leadership and Service - is a 501(c)(3) program that develops leadership skills in local Fayette County youth through outdoor adventure, community service and job skills-building. WELS engages 7th & 8th grade young men and women through outdoor activities including rafting, biking, climbing, and hiking, and provides adult mentorship and community service opportunities. WELS uses outdoor adventure as a tool to teach and cultivate core leadership skills in youth participants, mentors and volunteers. We encourage the transfer of leadership skills into participants’ everyday lives.

WELS Spring 2026 Session - Week 4 Monday Integration (Initiative). First, a prodigal son returns! One of our WELS graduates joined his mom and a family friend in feeding our leaders this evening. Erica and Chad led our leaders in a team building exercise. Then, after a quick discussion about initiative and inertia, our leaders settled in to reflect on their adventure and what they've learned this week!

WELS Spring 2026 Session - Week 4: Cycling (Initiative)... Once again, a change of plans! Thankfully, it was a beautiful day for our leaders to hit the Great Allegheny Passage for a few miles. Outfitted by Wilderness Voyageurs, our leaders did a 10 mile trek by bike! Legs will be sore tomorrow! 🚲🥵🦵🏽
