State Line Heritage Days

State Line Heritage Days Annual Community Festival State Line Heritage Days is an annual Community Festival. It is held in Union City, Indiana and Union City, Ohio.

The festival events are held in both communities. As residents of this community and members of the SLHD committee we do not see a line dissecting our two cities, instead we only see one community that happens to be spread across two states.

🎉 Big Heritage Days Updates — and We Mean BIG! 🎉

We had another great planning meeting, and the excitement keeps growing for State Line Heritage Days 2026!

First up… meet Gizmo! 🚗⚡
Thanks to a wonderful partnership with Leis Realty and Littman Thomas Agency Insurance, we will have the use of this fun electric vehicle during the festival. We are working on setting up festival “bus stops,” and Gizmo will make regular rounds to help transport people from place to place when needed. How cool is that?

And that’s not all…

🛏️ The Bed Races are BACK!
You asked for it, and we listened. This fan-favorite event is returning! Details will be coming in future posts, so start thinking about your team now.

🎶 Heritage Sounds has had a tremendous response!
We’ve had a lot of great interest from bands and performers, and we are now starting to narrow down the applicants. We are excited to share who will be joining us soon!

🎤 The Karaoke Contest is coming back too!
But we still need a karaoke DJ. Know someone who runs karaoke and might be interested? Please message us or comment with their contact information.

🏆 Contests are growing!
We now have a dedicated contests subcommittee. Want to help design, plan, and create fun contests for the festival? Let us know. We would love to have more creative people involved.

🔎 The Hunt just got even better!
The first-place prize is still $500, but we are now adding a $200 second-place prize plus 8 runner-up prizes! More details are coming soon.

Thank you so much for sharing our posts, commenting with ideas, encouraging the committee, and being part of helping us create your festival.

Heritage Days is coming back strong — because this community keeps showing up. ❤️🎡

🎡 Meet the People Behind Heritage Days! 🎡

This week we want to shine a spotlight on Jana Bruggeman, one of the longtime volunteers helping keep State Line Heritage Days going strong year after year.

Jana has been involved with Heritage Days for an incredible 42 years. Born and raised in this community, she volunteers because she genuinely loves Union City and enjoys seeing people come together to enjoy something the committee has worked hard to create for everyone.

One of Jana’s favorite things about Heritage Days is simply watching the community gather downtown — families visiting, people enjoying the food booths, lawn chairs lining the streets, and neighbors reconnecting throughout the weekend. She says some of her favorite memories come from knowing she helped create something the entire community can enjoy together.

🍰 When asked about favorite festival foods, Jana immediately mentioned Wick’s pies and deep fried Oreos.

🏆 As for favorite events, she especially enjoys the contests and competitions — from baking contests to the golf cart ticket competitions where friendly rivalries sometimes turn hilariously competitive.

🎪 Like many volunteers, Jana says most people never realize how much work happens behind the scenes. From permits and inspections to insurance paperwork, electrical setup, stage approvals, food booth requirements, portable restrooms, trash service, and coordinating with the state — there are countless details the committee handles long before the festival ever begins.

😂 And when asked about one of the funniest parts of the festival? Jana laughed and said working alongside Amy Stump because “she cracks me up.”

❤️ Thank you, Jana, for more than four decades of dedication to this community tradition!

Interested in helping shape this year’s festival? The Heritage Days committee will be meeting this Thursday at 6:00 PM in the Community Room. We’re always looking for people who want to help make great things happen in our community!

🎶 HERITAGE SOUNDS IS STARTING TO COME TO LIFE! 🎶

We’ve already had bands begin applying for the very first annual **Heritage Sounds** live music event at State Line Heritage Days, and we’re still looking for MORE musicians to join the fun! 🙌

This year’s theme is… 🔥 **JOHNNY CASH** 🔥

Each performer will play a short set and include TWO songs made famous by the Man in Black. We’re looking for all kinds of styles and interpretations — country, rock, blues, acoustic, Americana, and more.

Now we want to hear from YOU:

👇 If you were sitting in the crowd at Heritage Sounds…
🎤 What Johnny Cash songs would you absolutely want to hear performed LIVE?

Would it be:
🎵 Folsom Prison Blues
🎵 Ring of Fire
🎵 I Walk the Line
🎵 Hurt
🎵 Jackson
🎵 Boy Named Sue
…or something else?

Comment below and let us know! 👇

🎸 And don’t forget — if you know a great band, solo artist, or acoustic act that should be part of this event, SHARE this post with them or tag them in the comments. We’re still accepting submissions and would love to hear from more performers!

📧 Interested bands can send submissions to:

The excitement has been incredible lately, and we just want to say THANK YOU for all the comments, ideas, shares, and support. The response from the community has been amazing. ❤️

But now we want to ask YOU something simple:

👇 What is the ONE thing that makes Heritage Days feel like Heritage Days to you?

Is it:
🎶 The music?
🍔 The food?
🚜 The traditions?
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Seeing friends and family?
🎡 The midway?
🎭 The entertainment?
🎆 The atmosphere?

Comment below and tell us what makes the festival memorable for YOU.

Because at the end of the day, this isn’t just an event…

🎶 CALLING ALL MUSICIANS — Be Part of the First Annual Heritage Sounds! 🎶

We’re launching something brand new at State Line Heritage Days… and we want YOU on stage!

Following our FREE Community Dinner on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, we’re turning up the energy with:

We’re looking for 6 performers — and that could be YOU:
🎸 Full bands

🎵 All styles and genres welcome

Here’s how it works:
• Each act gets a 15–20 minute set
• Full drum kit, speakers, and hookups provided
• Perform original music or covers
• PLUS — each act must perform at least TWO songs made famous by our featured artist… JOHNNY CASH 🔥

That’s right… this year’s theme is Johnny Cash — so bring your own style, your own sound, and your own interpretation of the Man in Black’s legendary music. Country, rock, blues, folk, Americana… we want to hear it all!

🎯 Our goal is to create a night that’s high-energy, diverse, and packed with talent — a true celebration of music and community.

Please include:

Let’s talk about the tractor pull.

We know the tractor pull has been a favorite part of Heritage Days for many years, and we understand that a lot of people were hoping to see it return.

We looked hard at bringing it back. Unfortunately, a few things changed that made it much more difficult to accomplish.

First, we lost the location we had used in the past due to new ownership. We spent time trying to find another location that would work, because we truly did want to bring it back.

Then came the biggest challenge: the cost.

In past years, the sled rental was $2,000. This year, we were told the cost would be approximately $11,000. That is a huge increase, and it puts the event outside what is sustainable for our festival budget.

Rather than spend such a large portion of the festival funds on one event, we made the difficult decision to invest that money into more activities, more entertainment, and more opportunities for everyone to enjoy throughout the festival.

This wasn’t an easy decision. The tractor pull has meant a lot to Heritage Days, and we know some people will be disappointed. But the decision was made with the goal of making Heritage Days stronger, broader, and better overall.

Now we want your input.

What would you like to see instead? More family activities? A different kind of competition? Farm-themed games? A truck or equipment challenge? Something completely new?

👉 Drop your ideas in the comments. We’re listening, and we want Heritage Days to keep growing with the community’s help.

🚀 Planning for 2026 Has Already Begun! 🎉

We’re still riding the wave of joy from Stateline Heritage Days 2025 — the parade, the concerts, the contests, the laughter — and we’re already setting our sights on something even BIGGER for 2026!

But we can't do it without YOU. 💬

👉 What would you love to see at next year’s festival?
More live music? A carnival? New contests or traditions? More local food options? Interactive kid zones? A glow parade? We want to hear your best, most exciting, most creative ideas!

This is your community festival, and your voice matters. Let's work together to make next year unforgettable.

✨ Please keep things positive and constructive — this is a place to dream, build, and grow.

🚫 Negative or disrespectful comments will be removed — we’re here to celebrate and improve, not criticize.

Drop your ideas in the comments below or message us directly — and if you'd like to get involved behind the scenes, we’re always looking for new faces to join the planning team!

Let’s make Stateline Heritage Days 2026 the best one yet! 🙌
