Union City PBA Local 8 was proud to participate in the 43rd Anniversary of the New Jersey Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics – Hudson County Area 1.

This inspiring tradition continues to bring communities together across New Jersey, with more than 3,000 law enforcement officers carrying the Flame of Hope through towns and cities statewide to raise awareness and support for the extraordinary athletes of Special Olympics New Jersey.

As the torch made its way through Union City, our officers were honored to once again be joined by the enthusiastic 8th-grade students of Roosevelt, Edison, and Gilmore Union City Schools. This longstanding partnership reflects the values of unity, encouragement, and community spirit that make this event so meaningful. Their energy and dedication helped make the day even more memorable.

We run not only for the cause, but alongside it, standing with the athletes, their families, coaches, and volunteers who make the New Jersey Olympics such a powerful and life-changing movement.

Thank you to everyone who came out to cheer, support, and participate. Together, we continue to promote inclusion, celebrate determination, and carry the Flame of Hope forward for future generations.

Members of the Union City PBA Local 8 were honored to attend today’s Scholarship Awards Ceremony, where three scholarships were presented in memory of our fallen members.

These scholarships serve as a lasting tribute to the dedication, service, and sacrifice of those we have lost, while helping to support the educational goals and future success of deserving students. It was a privilege to recognize these outstanding recipients and their achievements.

Union City P.B.A. Local 8 remains committed to preserving the legacy of our fallen brothers and sisters by investing in the next generation and strengthening our community through education and opportunity. National Peace Officers Memorial Day, a time for our nation to honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. Last week, our Union City PBA Local 8 members had the pleasure of meeting two hardworking young entrepreneurs running a lemonade stand to raise money for an ice cream machine. Inspired by their dedication, teamwork, and entrepreneurial spirit, our members came together to surprise them by donating the ice cream machine they had been working so hard to earn.

We are proud to support the young members of our community who show determination, creativity, and a strong work ethic at such an early age. Moments like these remind us what community is all about neighbors supporting neighbors and encouraging the next generation to dream big and work hard.

Great job to these young entrepreneurs, and thank you to our NJ State PBA members for making a positive impact in our community!

This week isn’t just about recognition it’s about the lore behind the badge: the generations who answered the call, the fallen heroes whose names still echo through every precinct hallway, and the officers who continue the mission every single day. Best of luck and safe travels to everyone participating in this year’s Police Unity Tour, especially our Union City PBA Local 8 members.

Today, they departed from Jackson to begin their three-day journey to Washington as part of the Police Unity Tour. This 300-mile bike ride honors law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty and helps raise awareness in their memory.

We thank all of the riders for representing our community with pride and dedication, and we wish them a safe and successful journey.
