‼️Rhea is scheduled for Euthanasia on SAT (10/24) - Immediate Help Needed‼️
I walked Rhea many times. Rhea is a calm, friendly, playful, and affectionate Boxer Pit mix. She did not react to other dogs and knows how to sit and paw. She is playful and friendly to other dogs. Easy to leash, walk, in/out of the kennel. She is loyal and always stays close to me. Nothing wrong, just sweet, loyal, and calm.
As far as I know, she has never shown any aggression toward me or other experienced dog handlers who often walked her. I believe the kennel stress is getting worse. She needs to get out of the scary and noisy shelter before her stress gets worse.

Shelter Staff:
05/23/26 10:23 Found running together last night in the city of Santa Ana. RP states that she took the dog home but that they were not getting along with her large dog. Arriving at the shelter, staff performed a microchip check and brief visual exam. No microchip was found using wand scanner. The visual exam was unremarkable. Retrieving the dogs, staff was able to place a leash on all dogs without any issues. A1962359 did not know how to walk on a leash but allowed handling without any issues.
5/28/26: Playgroup assessed. Currently a candidate for playgroup
6/2/26: Took Rhea out yesterday for photos and videos. ACA staff walked Rhea around campus (due to URI). She was easy to leash and walk, no pulling, tail down. Sniffed various bushes and plants. She knows "sit" and was non-reactive to other dogs passing by. She LOVES pets, especially around the ears. That got her smiling and leaning in for more pets. Very shy but sweet girl. No issues returning to kennel.
06/21/26 17:11 During a visit, Rhea hid under the bench and when I approached her, she lightly lunged and growled at me. After stepping back, she became calm and came to me for pets and reassurance. Please advise visitors or possible adopters to go very slow with her when she becomes timid.
9/15/26: Drooling upon approach to kennel, easy to leash, pulls strong, took a while sniffing plants, explored yard, did zoomies, played fetch, sought attention and affection. Easy return to kennel.
10/1/26 - Highly reactive in kennel - will bite and bark at reaching hands.
10/13/26 - During an outing with a volunteer lunged and attempt to bite my hand. I was passing by a volunteer, Rhea made eye contact with me, shifted her body to line up with mine, lowered body, and then explosively lunged at my hand attempted to bite. I could hear her jaw snap as the volunteer tugged her back down. Had the volunteer not pulled on the lead, she was likely to have bitten me.
10/15/26 - While out with a volunteer, Rhea triggered towards the same staff member, lunging, snarling, and charging towards the end of the leash. Moved to B1. While Rhea has shown social and affectionate behaviors towards some staff & volunteer, she has shown offensive behavior towards a few handlers (charging with offensive body posture, snapping, and attempting to bite). Showing to the public would be a safety risk because if they possess a similarity that triggers her, she would replicate her offensive response putting our guests at risk. Suggesting placement with rescue due to offensive behaviors.
