Angels for Animals Network

Angels for Animals Network AFAN is not a rescue or a shelter. We do not have any animals in our care. Angels for Animals Network is not a rescue or a shelter. We do not accept donations.

We network animals from high kill shelters in Southern CA most in need of rescue so they can be saved. Since 2009 our goal has been to help shelter animals in need through networking and facilitating shelter policy improvements, so hopefully, each will find a rescue or adopter. This page is run by volunteers. You can help by sharing, pledging, fostering, adopting and getting involved at your local

animal shelter and rescue community. Even if you don't think you know anyone that can help, you are spreading the word about shelter animals. These wonderful animals will thank you for your help.

โ€ผ๏ธEUTHANASIA ALERT!โ€ผ๏ธ ๐Ÿšจ URGENT! Medical Husky FROST NEEDS RESCUE by 9AM 9/4/26! ๐Ÿšจ

๐Ÿ†˜ Plea from OC Animal Care: ๐Ÿ†˜

๐ŸพFrost A1955711
10 years old, 73 lbs, neutered male, Siberian Husky

Frost has been with us since April. He is a friendly senior who has done well with staff and volunteers and has been to outside visits. Recently it has been noted that he was having difficulty standing up and getting around. Today his condition declined rapidly. He was able to stand and walk this morning, but this afternoon he is completely immobile. He can stand on his front legs if his back legs are supported, but cannot move forward on his own.

This is an emergency situation as he is also urinating on himself and cannot rise and move around his kennel. He needs to be taken directly to a neurologist to be evaluated to see if there is anything that can be done to help him. His notes from today are below.

If your organization has the resources to provide him the medical care he needs please contact us immediately. He will be evaluated again at 5 pm today. If he is doing worse he may be compassionately euthanized at that time. If he appears stable he may be held overnight. He needs rescue commitment by 9 am tomorrow.

Recheck:
Patient was pulled by staff member for examination but was unable to stand. Became fully splay legged on all four limbs. Crying out.
Shelter staff moved to medical kennels. Went to kennel to examine. Panting RR 60, P: 120, Red mm.
Completely nonambulatory on all four limbs, splay legged- moving limbs but paddling only. Laying sternal with head up.
Reflexes present but no CP- unable to evaluate as patient is not standing
Crying out, whipping head around for any exam or palpation
Increased drinking, increased urination (yellow-clear).

A: Concern for progressive spinal arthritis, discospondylosis that has fused and caused ruptured discs and bone formation with nerve pain, or any combination of the above. This appears to be end stage arthritis and pain medication is not controlling any type of pain at this point. Unclear if there is any treatment available, given patient's lack of response to tx.

Provided Hydromorphone for sedation and ideally some pain control- continue BID.
Send rescue plea for sooner- EOD since patient is not weight bearing and in active pain but will check on patient at EOD to see if patient is comfortable enough to wait until 9/4 EOD. However, this is a very unstable patient and concern for urine scalding, f***l scalding, further worsening of pain- will have all staff monitoring very closely. Patient may have to be euthanized prior to deadline time.

โœ… If your rescue organization can help sweet FROST, please email the Rescue Coordinators IMMEDIATELY by 9AM on 09/04/2026:

โ€ผ๏ธPAST DEADLINEโ€ผ๏ธWILL BE EUTHANIZED AT ANY MOMENTโ€ผ๏ธ

When Skippie entered the shelter on 6/16/26, he wasnโ€™t in prime shape. He had patches of missing fur on his legs and a puncture wound (possibly from a dog bite).

On one hand, he was fearful and sensitive to injections, but on the other, he gently sought attention from staff.

Initially, Skippie was hesitant to being leashed. He showed some reactivity at times but made significant temperament improvement over time. He was sweet, easy to walk, solicited pets/affection, and began to show interest in other dogs. Volunteers thought heโ€™d be a good candidate for playgroups as it would help build his confidence.

On 8/22/26, we were overjoyed to hear that Skippie was adopted. Our loving boy would finally have a place to call home.

But just TWO days later, on 8/24, his adopters surrendered him back to the shelter because of his resistance to confinement. Skippie reacted when crated or being allocated only a small space.

Statement from adopter: Skippie is a sweet dog but has issues whenever he is confined or contained and becomes aggressive and tries to bite. He tries to escape whatever area he is contained or confined in (notes cont. in comments).

Rescues: The captions provide a snapshot of Skippieโ€™s shelter notes. For a comprehensive behavioral and medical history, please message the rescue coordinator at the email provided below.

+ I am a volunteer and neither an employee/representative of OC Animal Care, an animal behaviorist, nor a vet. I am not qualified to interpret behavioral nor medical notes. Temperament should always be assessed by a professional.

Julez and her 5 underage kittens arrived as over-the-counter strays on 8/16. Julez is very friendly/affectionate and allows handling of her kittens as can be seen in the below video. However, the kittens are not thriving here. After two weeks, only one of the five kittens (A1974522) has gained weight while the rest have stayed the same or even lost weight. They are in need of a rescue who can provide them with more individualized attention to make sure each kitten is eating enough and/or rule out with their veterinarian that something more is not going on.

Please let us know if your organization is in a position to help the whole family or just the kittens (Julez does not have a deadline at this time).

*The kittens could be humanely euthanized sooner if they were to decline.

๐Ÿ›Ÿ Plea from OC Animal Care: ๐Ÿ›Ÿ

๐ŸพBangor A1976322
5 weeks old, 1.33 lbs, male, black/white, DSH

Bangor was observed by an RP yesterday afternoon with his legs splayed out in their driveway. The RP who found Bangor said that when he tried to run away, he did not use his rear legs. Bangor is a friendly little guy who is extremely ataxic on all 4 legs, especially his back legs. He has neurologic tremors both when moving and when sitting still (rule out congenital vs toxin vs cerebellar hypoplasia vs other).

Bangor is going to need further veterinary diagnostics and care. He does not have a stray holding period due to being underage and can go to rescue right now.
