Junior Auxiliary of Tupelo

Junior Auxiliary of Tupelo "Care Today - Character Tomorrow" Children are referred to the School Aid Committee by teachers, school nurses, or school counselors.

JUNIOR AUXILIARY OF TUPELO 2021-2022 PROJECTS:

SCHOOL AID: School supplies, emergency medical and dental care, and eyeglasses are provided to needy school children in Tupelo and Lee County. Through the generosity of the local medical and dental communities, JA is able to assist children whose school experiences are being compromised by minor health problems. CLOTHES CLOSET: School counselors, tea

chers, nurses and churches may refer school age children with inadequate clothing to the JA Clothes Closet. Basic wardrobe needs, including shoes and underwear, are provided by our supply of items that are donated or purchased new. Each fall Junior Auxiliary members hold a blue jean drive in local schools to supplement donated items. Our goal is to help children return to school with a more positive outlook by having proper clothing for the school environment. SCHOLARSHIP: To promote continuing education, each year Junior Auxiliary of Tupelo awards scholarships based on need and merit to high school seniors through the Margaret Gardner Scholarship Fund. The Mary Elizabeth Williams Scholarship Fund provides summer day camp opportunities for children of working parents who need quality summer day care. This fund also enables Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts to attend their respective camps. The National Association of Junior Auxiliaries (NAJA) also offers financial assistance to graduate students who are pursuing a degree in a child-related field. DRAMA QUEENS: "There's No Business Like Show Business!" and Drama Queens are on the move! "Drama Queens" is a traveling theatre produced exclusively by Junior Auxiliary. Targeting students in the 4th through 6th grades, this project will travel to schools in both the Tupelo Public School District and Lee County Schools. JA members will perform a short play using subject matter relevant to today's pre-teens, such as cyber safety, health and nutrition, and bullying. In addition to performing, JA members will also provide educational materials to students and teachers to coincide with the theatrical experience. This exposure to live theatre is sure to provide a positive message along with fun and entertainment. SHINE: (Strong, Healthy, Independent, Non-Judgemental & Empowered) This week long summer camp for girls entering the 7th grade promotes positive self esteem through devotions, drama, art, physical exercise, group discussions, and mostly fun! Community members as well as JA members lead these informative activities.

Education is one of the greatest gifts we can invest in for the future. Through the Margaret Gardner Scholarship Fund, Junior Auxiliary of Tupelo is proud to support local high school seniors as they pursue their next chapter.

This year, our Scholarship Committee selected 20 outstanding recipients from 7 Lee County high schools and awarded a total of $34,000 in scholarships based on need and merit.

Congratulations to each of these deserving students! ๐ŸŽ“๐Ÿ’™

What a special way to wrap up the year

The SMART Girls had the best visit to the Gregory House at Traceway Retirement Community! Throughout the year, these girls have poured love into their community service projectโ€”creating โ€œhappiesโ€ at each meeting for the residents.

At our final gathering, they were finally able to meet the wonderful people theyโ€™ve been serving all year. From friendly rounds of bingo to creating beautiful floral arrangements and crafting spring wreaths for residentsโ€™ doors, every moment was filled with smiles, laughter, and connection.

Moments like these remind us that even the smallest acts of kindness can make the biggest impact ๐Ÿ’™
