There will be an Auxiliary sidewalk sale at the VFW Post 6119 today, Oct. 17th, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Bag sale $10 to start with. Larger items individually priced. Next door to the Three Rivers Library on Leroy Street. Come see us.

Live Oak County Teachers and Students ... Post 6119 has these scholarship programs and offer money prizes. We then send the winners on to Texas VFW District 6 level where there are money prizes. The winners there are sent on to Department (State) which again has money prizes. Those that win there, are sent on to Nationals. They must be to the Live Oak County VFW POST by MIDNIGHT Oct 31st to compete.

Texas students: entries for Patriot’s Pen and Voice of Democracy must reach a participating VFW Post by midnight on October 31, 2026.

Patriot’s Pen | Grades 6–8
Written essay competition • National first prize: $5,000

Voice of Democracy | Grades 9–12
Audio essay competition • National first prize: $35,000 scholarship

Both competitions share this year’s theme: “What a Veteran Taught Me About America.”

Join us for the 25th anniversary 9/11 Remembrance at the Live Oak Co. Courthouse at 8:30 a.m.

TODAY (9/11) ALL FLAGS SHOULD BE AT HALF-STAFF.
To Lower and Raise the Flag Correctly
Use a two-step motion to set the flag at half-staff: raise to the peak steadily, pause, then lower to the midpoint. When lowering, stop so the center of the flag sits midway on the staff. At the end of the observance, raise the flag to the peak before lowering it fully.
When raising and lowering the flag, remember, it raised quickly and lowered slowly.
