Animal Samaritans was founded in 1978, and is a leading 501(c)(3) no-kill animal shelter, full-service veterinary clinic, and comprehensive outreach animal welfare organization committed to “Improving the Lives of Animals and People.”

Animal Samaritans relies on foundation grants and the generosity of individual and corporate donors to protect and save abused and abandoned animals; educate stu

dents and the public about the importance of humane treatment of animals through our Humane Education Program; provide Animal Assisted Therapy to patients in hospitals, residents in assisted living facilities and nursing homes, as well as the disabled; offer financial assistance programs for pet owners on a limited income, discounts to our active and retired military, and low-cost high-quality veterinary care for all pet owners.

Meet Blue. After surviving a devastating attack, Blue’s family was faced with an incredibly difficult and heartbreaking decision due to the cost of his care. Because Animal Samaritans is a nonprofit dedicated to improving the lives of animals and people, we have financial aid funds for income qualified households. Because of these funds and our dedicated veterinary team, we were able to help Blue and his family. Blue has a long road to recovery ahead of him, but he is safe, surrounded by love, and getting a second chance at life. Your continued support makes miracles like this possible.

Calling all young animal lovers in the Coachella Valley! Summer Critter Camp 2026 is officially BACK and registration is now open!

Get ready for an unforgettable summer filled with furry, feathered, and scaly friends! Campers will enjoy amazing live animal presentations from our very own certified Animal Companion Therapy teams and the Mobile Zoo of Southern California. Plus, we’ve packed the days with fun pet-care lessons, animal-themed arts & crafts, games, and an art contest with prizes! Every camper even gets a FREE camp t-shirt!

Camp Locations & Registration Info:
Registration is completely FREE, but space is limited! To register, please pick up a form in person at the center you wish to attend:

DHS Family Resource Center (14-320 Palm Dr, Desert Hot Springs - Inside WIC) Note: DHS & Mecca Family Resource Centers prioritize their clients, but will open spots to the public if space is available.

For more information on dates and times contact the center directly to register.

DHS Recreation Center (11750 Cholla Dr, Desert Hot Springs) Note: This location is for members ONLY.

MECCA Family Resource Center (91-275 66th Ave., Suite 600, Mecca)

Important Camp Details:

Ages: 7 to 11 years old ONLY.

Participation: Campers are expected to jump in and participate in all art projects and games.

Attendance Rule: Your child MUST show up on the first day to be allowed to attend the second day. No excuses!
