Jewish partisan Faye Schulman talks about her camera, a Zeiss Ikon Folding model with Compur shutter, made in Germany and considered "state of the art."

"After the post-war period, Faye never used her camera again. It is now with her family in Toronto."

See a camera like Faye's, and see Faye's photographs, and learn about her experiences as a Jewish partisan along the Polish-Soviet border between 1942-1945 at the Tolerance Education Center of Rancho Mirage through January 3 2025.

Pictures of Resistance: The Wartime Photography of Jewish Partisan Faye Schulman, a compelling traveling exhibition produced by the Jewish Partisan Educational Foundation (JPEF) and curated by Jill Vexler, Ph. D poses probing questions about this incredible woman and the people whose images she documented.

Pictures of Resistance: The Wartime Photographs of Jewish Partisan Faye Schulman

"Born in Poland in 1924, Faye Schulman received her first camera from her brother when she was 13. That camera ultimately saved her life and allowed her to document Jewish partisan activity later. As a result, she is one of the only known Jewish partisan photographers.

Schulman's rare collection of images captures the camaraderie, horror, loss, bravery, and triumph of the rag-tag, resilient partisans—some Jewish - some not—who fought the Germans and their collaborators.

The TEC's gallery art hanging system was installed this week, and TEC staff is so excited to begin using it for our new Fall 2024 exhibitions, opening in September and October. The 2nd photo is an example of how the hanging system works once art is installed. No hammers and nails!!! No patching and painting 😊

The TEC is opening on 3 September 2024, with a new photography exhibit, daily hours, and upcoming events. Please subscribe to our newsletter at https://lp.constantcontactpages.com/su/KtzQk2K

We look forward to seeing everyone in September!!! 🥳

Have a great weekend!

Hard work at the Tolerance Education Center as the new hanging system for the exhibit walls is being installed. This will allow the TEC staff to more efficiently and easily hang and install art pieces for exhibits without having to hammer and patch walls 🤩🖼

Exciting things have been underway since March 2024, when the Jewish Federation of the Desert assumed the management of the Tolerance Education Center.

There have been significant upgrades to the interior and security systems, as we prep for our opening and first exhibit in September.

TEC staff is hard at work painting gallery walls with a new fresh coat of paint 🎨 😍
