I’m humbled by the number of people that came to the EPD public comment meeting this evening.

Thank you for coming out… thank you for speaking up!

I’m not sure the number of people there but there were speakers in opposition from the moment the public comment / hearing began until approx 7:30 pm.

Only one spoke in support of the industry but I’m not sure if the former higher up at the Thomaston hospital - who no longer lives here in Upson - voice actually counts.

Great job for all those that spoke up and thanks to all who took the time to show up!

Tonight is the night..... it is your time to be vocal - stand up - be heard - and not just let our local officials know how much we do not want our community compromised with a 'testing facility'. Its time to come out from behind the keyboard, monitor, and user names and be present - be authentic and be heard. If you don't want to speak - it is okay - your presence shows the EPD the level of concern the residents have for our community.

If you don't want to speak - write your concerns down and bring them by - turn them in as public record. It's never too late to protect our community.

Tell your friends and neighbors!!

On May 18, Brightmark’s draft air permit hearing for their massive plastic pyrolysis facility will take place in person at the Thomaston-Upson Civic Center. There will be a short presentation followed by public comment.

Please plan to attend the hearing and provide a public comment opposing the permit. You don’t need to be an expert on plastic pyrolysis—sharing your concerns about the health, safety, economic and environmental impacts on our home is powerful and important. Your statement or comment can be up to three minutes.

Bring your friends, your family, and a sign or two!

The first regular meeting of the BOC will take place next week on Jan 13th at 6 pm. I encourage everyone to make 2026 the year you get involved and participate in the oversight and future direction of Upson County. There is a saying in business - If you don't have a seat at the table - YOU become part of the menu! In 2026 - BE AT THE TABLE. Not participating sends a clear message of apathy - Help keep transparency and accountability the focus of 2026 moving forward!
