Pearl, a 1 yr update
came into Hail Mary Rescue in Sept of 2025 as an honest disaster. With a few months of TLC she was well on her way to being healthy but her ears remained a lingering issue. In March of 2026 we felt she was healthy enough and she did go out on an adoption. Unfortunately late this summer she was returned after the husband’s work schedule changed drastically. Upon arriving in Virginia shortly after Mary started attempting to get the ears back under control, and ultimately she came up to Cathy in Warrenton to see our vets at Rose Hill. Allergy testing was conducted and we just received the results, over all we feel she will be very manageable. Her biggest challenges are - Honey Bees, Paper wasps, American and European house dust mites, flour mites, common dust mites and beef. She has quite a few other things that she is under the threshold for at this time as well.
Obviously we all try and avoid flying biting insects so that seems pretty manageable, the mites are obviously everywhere but can be controlled. We have cleaned an area with a tile floor and bought her a new easy to wash canvas dog bed to use. We will work to keep her in a clean environment as much as possible. Turkey was her least reactive food so we will be switching her to a limited ingredient diet as she has quite a few foods just under threshold.
While at the vet we had her given a shot of Cytopoint and we will be discussing continuing that vs having immunotherapy shots blended for her. Cathy recently had to start this with HMR alumni Journee and the results have been outstanding. Fortunately Pearl has much fewer reactions and we think could potentially be managed by simple avoidance.
Pearl is very grateful to all of our donors who have made her care this past year possible, she enjoyed a shopping trip this morning with a donation made for her care.
Ultimately we would love to see Pearl in a home.
We will cover all costs related to her ears for the next year as we continue to work with our vets and potential adopters to get her as healthy as possible.
