Cancer survivorship begins the day of a cancer diagnosis. Whether you have just been diagnosed, are currently undergoing treatment, or have completed treatment, you are a cancer survivor. Memorial Hermann also recognizes that every survivorship journey is unique and may include physical, spiritual and psychosocial challenges along the way.

At Canopy, we are honored to walk alongside survivors and their loved ones through every stage of that journey. Healing extends beyond medical treatment, which is why our free programs focus on the whole person through education, counseling, movement, nutrition, creative expression and meaningful connection.

Check out a guide to follow-up care after diagnosis and information on support groups, education classes and more resources to help you: https://bit.ly/4gxOxnu.

On Monday afternoons, Canopy guests are greeted by Layla, a Great Pyrenees and a certified pet therapy dog.

She and her owner, Mary Lynn Perry, are members of Pets With A Mission, a pet therapy organization dedicated to bringing comfort and encouragement to those in need. Mary Lynn began providing pet therapy at Memorial Hermann in 2016 and later brought comfort and companionship to Canopy survivors and caregivers.

A lifelong animal lover, Mary Lynn has pursued her passion for helping animals throughout her life. Before becoming involved in pet therapy, she volunteered with Operation Pets Alive, and became a Texas-permitted wildlife rehabilitator. Today, she continues to volunteer twice a month with the Houston SPCA. Mary Lynn encourages others to volunteer in ways that align with their passions. Her advice is simple: find something you truly love and share it with others.

Mary Lynn and Layla are such a bright addition to our Canopy team!

We proudly unveiled "A Community in Bloom", a collaborative mural created by dozens of community members during the 2026 The Woodlands Waterway Arts Festival through a partnership with The Woodlands Arts Council and The Woodlands Art League.

Beautifully named by cancer survivor and Canopy volunteer, Amanda Crawford, the mural symbolizes hope, healing, resilience and the power of community. It now serves as a lasting welcome to every guest who walks through our doors.

Stop by Canopy and experience this inspiring art piece.šŸŽØ

For someone facing cancer, finding a place where they feel supported, cared for and understood by people who have had similar experiences can be life changing. At Canopy, survivors and caregivers tell us that they discover something they didn't know they needed: a community. This is why we are here, because no one should have to face cancer alone. Welcome our newest team member from Pets With A Mission! Bram is an 8-year-old Great Pyrenees who joined Pets With A Mission as a certified therapy dog in 2026. This gentle giant loves carrots, carries his favorite toy, Bumble, wherever he can and brings comfort, calm and plenty of smiles to people around him.

Together, Bram and his handler, Renee, visit Canopy to provide companionship and emotional support to our guests. If you see Bram during your next visit, be sure to stop by and say hello, he’ll be happy to brighten your day! šŸ• ā˜ŗļø

During our 3rd Annual Women’s Survivorship Retreat, 30 women came together for a day of laughter, connection, movement and hope, reminding us that even in life’s hardest seasons, joy can still be found.

These moments capture the heart of survivorship. At Canopy, we are committed to empowering those touched by cancer with knowledge, strength and a true sense of belonging. Together, we continue to elevate life above cancer.

Thank you to our exceptional instructors, community partners, volunteers and Canopy team for making this special day possible, and to each of the incredible women who embraced this year’s theme: Joy in Every Chapter.
