Happy Friday, Texas! ☀️

The TMC crew is officially back in the office after a busy week traveling across the state of Texas. We were able to hit two cities, two incredible events, and a whole lot of reasons to be proud of the masonry industry!

📍 SAN ANTONIO | MONSTER TECH

We spent the day at Monster Tech, where students had the opportunity to get hands-on experience with masonry and explore the possibilities of a career in the skilled trades.

A HUGE thank-you to Alamo Colleges for not only hosting and helping create opportunities for students to discover what this industry has to offer, but for your continuous partnership with TMC. PLUS a special shoutout to Johnny and Cristina with Shadrock & Williams for sharing their time, knowledge, and craftsmanship with the next generation. It’s people like you who help turn curiosity into opportunity!

📍 DALLAS | SPEC MIX BRICKLAYER 500

Meanwhile, up in Dallas, TMC joined the excitement at Best Block for the SPEC MIX BRICKLAYER 500!

The competition brought together talented masons showcasing their speed, precision, and craftsmanship, along with industry professionals and supporters cheering them on. From the impressive brickwork to the energy surrounding the competition, it was a fantastic reminder of the skill, dedication, and hard work behind our industry. A big thank-you to SPEC MIX, Best Block and everyone involved for bringing the masonry community together!

Whether we’re introducing students to their first trowel or celebrating experienced masons at the top of their craft, our mission remains the same: supporting, promoting, and strengthening the future of masonry in Texas.

TEXTURE TUESDAY | WHEN MASONRY BECOMES ART

Happy Tuesday, Texas! Who says brickwork has to stay inside the lines?
This week’s Texture Tuesday takes us to Austin, Texas, where Wallscape (BECOME) proves that masonry can be just as much an artistic expression as it is a skilled trade. Spanning three phases and more than a year, the project required careful coordination, precision, and a whole lot of creative problem-solving.

🧱 Every brick had its place. Each colored glazed brick was carefully positioned according to the artist’s vision.

🏗️ Some bricks appear to float! Hidden galvanized steel supports and specially notched bricks create the illusion of a suspended wall.

🎨 The unfinished look was intentional. Exposed concrete masonry units (CMU) give portions of the installation the appearance of architectural remnants.

✨ And here’s our favorite detail: Subtle lettering glazed onto selected bricks reveals words of encouragement that become visible only from certain angles and in changing light.

What makes this project especially remarkable is the collaboration behind it. Working directly with the artist, the masonry team adapted to unique design requirements, material challenges, and unexpected delays to bring his vision to life.

And the team behind it?

MASONRY MONDAY | BEYOND THE BRICK

Monday again, Texas? Don’t worry, we’ve got something a little more exciting than your morning inbox! 😂
Today, we’re taking a trip to the beautiful Texas Hill Country, where history, heritage, and some seriously impressive masonry come together!

📍 Boerne City Hall | Boerne, Texas

Featured in our 2021 Golden Trowel submissions, this 42,000-square-foot, three-story municipal building is proof that great architecture doesn’t just occupy a space. It belongs there. Before a single stone was laid, the team at Randall Scott Architects spent days studying Boerne’s architecture, traditions, and German heritage to create a building that truly reflected its community.

And the details? They’re worth a closer look!

From the rough-hewn and honed Austin limestone to the beautiful cast stone arches, historic-inspired balcony railings, and standing seam metal roof, every element was carefully considered.

Even the building’s design connects it to its surroundings! The west elevation draws inspiration from Boerne’s historic Hill Country Mile, while the east incorporates architectural elements from the neighboring public library.

But here’s what makes this project truly special…

It wasn’t designed for just the next generation. It was envisioned to serve the community for centuries.

Now THAT’S what we call building a legacy!

The Team Behind the Craftsmanship:

🧱 Masonry Contractor: Lundberg Masonry, Inc.

📐 Architect: Randall Scott Architects, Inc.

🏗️ General Contractor: Lee Lewis Construction

Projects like Boerne City Hall remind us why we love this industry. It’s not just about the materials or the finished building. It’s about the skilled hands, thoughtful design, and lasting connections to the communities we help build.

Because when craftsmanship meets purpose, the result is something worth preserving for generations. ❤️🧱

TROWELS DOWN, WEEKEND UP! ☀️

Put a fork in it, Texas… this week's DONE! Or should we say, put a trowel in it? 😂
The bricks have been laid, the mortar's setting, and the weekend is officially calling! We've spent the week talking all things masonry, but today we're keeping it short, sweet, and a little dusty. To all our hardworking crews out there, we hope your weekend is as solid as the project you've been building and working on! 💪🧱
Kick those muddy boots off, enjoy some well-deserved downtime, and we'll see y'all back at it Monday!

Same trowels. New week. More masonry.

Happy Friday from your friends at Texas Masonry Council!

Well, well, well… look what the mortar dragged in! 👀🧱
Happy Throwback Thursday!

We’re digging through the archives today, and we found some pretty great memories! A little mortar, a few crooked bricks, some friendly competition, and a whole lot of learning! 😂 There’s just something special about watching students pick up a trowel, get their hands dirty, and realize that laying brick isn’t quite as easy as the professionals make it look! These are the moments we love most. Seeing students try something new, work together, ask questions, and maybe even discover a passion they didn’t know they had.

And the best part? TMC is far from finished making memories with the next generation of masons! We’ve got several exciting Masonry Days on the horizon, and we’re ready for more muddy boots, mortar-covered hands, friendly competition, and unforgettable experiences.

We’re looking forward to getting back out there, putting trowels in students’ hands, and continuing to introduce young people to the incredible opportunities our industry has to offer.

Because at the end of the day, we’re not just teaching students how to lay brick. We’re helping build the future of masonry, one student and one memory at a time.

WHY MASONRY WEDNESDAY |

A great school is more than a place to learn. It’s a place where futures are built, communities come together, and generations of students create lasting memories.

So why choose masonry for educational facilities?

🏛️ Timeless Design: From beautiful brickwork to intricate architectural details, masonry creates welcoming spaces that stand out.

💪 Lasting Durability: Designed to withstand the demands of busy educational environments, properly constructed masonry offers long-term strength and resilience.

🔥 Fire Resistance: Noncombustible masonry materials can contribute to safer, fire-resistant building designs.

🧱 Long-Term Value: With its durability and relatively low maintenance requirements, masonry is an investment in the future.

Masonry’s report card just came in. Straight A's in durability, fire resistance, and looking good for decades.

MASONRY MYTH-BUSTER TUESDAY!

MYTH: Masonry is outdated and doesn’t belong in modern architecture.

FACT: Think again!

Modern masonry continues to push the boundaries of architectural design, combining timeless craftsmanship with innovative applications.

Take a look at the ION Garage, a 2026 Texas Masonry Council Golden Trowel Award winner in the Industrial & Commercial category, with masonry work by Dee Brown, Inc.

Projects like this remind us that masonry isn’t just about preserving the past. It’s about building the future.

Timeless materials. Modern possibilities. Built to last.

Happy Monday folks. Looks like Mother Nature finally remembered it's October in Texas! We hope everyone stayed warm as this cold front rolled through the Lone Star State!
We would like to start this week with a little:
