Combat Marine Outdoors 501c3 Non-Profit Combat Marine Outdoors - CMO During 2022 we are prepared to exceed all of our goals and reach out to as many Combat Veterans than ever before.

Combat Marine Outdoors started in 2005 after visiting combat wounded Marines and Sailors from the 1st Marine Division at Brooke Army Medical Center for several months. The Marines, Sailors and service members needed an opportunity to get away from the hospital, in an environment of friendship, camaraderie, and fellowship with fellow Marines in order to accelerate their recovery from the traumatic

injuries they sustained in combat. In many cases, these service members did not want to leave the confines of the hospital, but it was (and is) crucial to begin to re-inculcate back into society. In every case, the Marines and other service members who participated in the outings felt an enormous sense of accomplishment and a new sense of hope and belonging once the trip was completed. While the hunting and fishing aspects of the program are important, they are merely a vehicle to demonstrate to these heroes that there are tens of thousands of patriotic Americans who truly care about these brave warriors and are willing to show their appreciation and support by providing once-in-a-lifetime adventures in some of the most incredible places in the world. The camaraderie, friendship and fellowship associated with each outing have had an incredible healing property, and in many cases, were a turning point in the emotional recovery of these Marines, Sailors and service members. We continue to provide life-changing outdoor adventures to these brave heroes as we have over 100 ranches and hosts who actively participate annually with our Combat Marine Outdoors program. Our Mission is to take over 500 veterans to the outdoors hunting and over 1000 hunting, fishing, bird hunting golfing and dinner events every year. To date, since 2005 we have taken over 7200 men and women on outdoor adventures of a lifetime because of the volunteers and support of the American people in our communities across the USA. This past weekend CMO was honored to take another outstanding group of Veterans out into the great outdoors to do some ram hunting at Temples Hwy 41 Ranch. Thanks to our guide, John Puckett, the warriors had a successful hunt. They were able to harvest three goats and one ram. As we have experienced time after time a successful hunt is great, but the best takeaway from a trip is being able to clear your mind of all the clutter. Allowing you connect with other veterans that you may never have met. Camaraderie is what we know. It is what we need. Helping each other one trip at a time!

Calavaras Fishing Derby Notes:

Hope you are joining us this weekend for our Big Fishing Derby event Lake. We look forward to having many of you out with us for a fun and exciting time. Below are a few notes for those joining us. If you have any questions or any last minute updates please feel free to reach out to Marcus (CMO Tram Leader). His contact info is at the bottom. Tight lines and have fun 🫡🇺🇸🎣

Gates open at 0600.

0600-0730 sign in at the tents directly ahead to your right as you come in thru the gate.

There will be a line so get there early as you can …please be patient as the staff will work to get everyone in as quickly as possible.

Please do not park in the boat parking area close to the boat ramp.

All boats in the water NLT 0800.

If you plan on fishing as a group , please have your entire group there to sign in , we will fill boats as you arrive (Most of the boats have a capacity of 4 or 5 guests plus Boat Captain).

All boats in for weigh in or fish cleaning by 1230.

Food and refreshments will be available once you come off the boat.

Bring VA letter if DV to get in free...and register for free park pass. Or sign up with them prior to the derby to expedite.
If you are a veteran with less than 60% the cost is reduced to $9.00 for entry.

A few key points to remember

-Fishing license (must have one) Academy or Walmart free if active duty or 100% Disabled.

-Dress for the weather.. this is San Antonio.

-Hat/Sunglasses/Sun bock, chap stick—snacks and canned or plastic bottle drinks of choice..

CMO or Boat CPTs do not provide alcohol .

-Cooler for fish

-You are allowed to tip your boat Captains

CMO would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all the volunteers, friends, families, and Boat Captains from Seadrift for your incredible service and support in giving our Warriors an unforgettable fishing experience. Your hard work, dedication, and hospitality truly made this trip special.

A special thank you to the Boat Captains for working tirelessly to put our Warriors on some great fish, even through the rain. Because of your efforts, the Warriors were able to enjoy an amazing time on the water filled with laughter, bonding, fellowship, and memories that will last a lifetime. They truly appreciated the opportunity to relax outdoors, connect with one another, and experience the joy of catching lots of fish.

Thank you for your generosity, selflessness, and for standing beside our Warriors. Your support means more than words can express, and you helped create an experience they will never forget. Thank you and God Bless.

On Memorial Day, we honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation. Their courage secured the freedoms we often take for granted, and their legacy lives on in every flag that waves, every family they left behind, and every American who continues to stand because they once stood for us.

Memorial Day is more than a long weekend—it is a solemn reminder that freedom has a cost.

At Combat Marine Outdoors, we remember our fallen heroes with gratitude, humility, and unwavering respect. We also stand beside the veterans, service members, and Gold Star families who carry their memory every single day.

May we never forget the price of liberty.

What a tough day on the water with this bi-polar weather man !!! With half the veterans being first timers it was a bit of a gamble … you know that “horror story“ first trip can be a hobby killer…but Jesus said , not today…..We got a little wet but our Veterans got fish and had a great time !!!
And despite the challenging conditions, our incredible boat captains were on the grind and absolutely came through in a clutch to bring in fish for our veterans. Their dedication ensures our heroes still get that unforgettable experience and well-deserved R&R.

As we reflect on this weekend, we are also paying homage to our fallen this Memorial Day. We owe a debt we can never repay to those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

A huge thank you to all of our boat Captains Scott Birnel, Jerry Furst, Bryan Cantu and all our supporters of CMO for making this possible! Your commitment changes lives.
