It is with deep and profound sadness, we announce the sudden and tragic loss of Local 1421 Member, our Union Brother , Jonathan Welch ; “a beloved son, brother, uncle, friend, and, most of all, an incredibly devoted father to his daughter, Ella.”
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 28th 2026 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home (19 Clapp St, Norton, MA 02766)
His family is facing this devastating loss while also navigating the unexpected financial burden that comes with it. They are asking for your help in supporting his parents and, most importantly, his daughter, Ella. They created a GoFundMe to help cover Jonathan’s funeral and final expenses. “Boston’s next generation of construction professionals are about to get a head start. Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston (BGCB) is partnering with the Rising Stars Program, a nonprofit working to close the skilled labor gap, to launch Trade Trailblazers, an eight-week summer experience that connects teens to rewarding, in-demand careers in the skilled trades.” We were lucky enough to host this great group of students who are interested in the Building Wrecker’s Trade yesterday. We got to show them some of the tools we use as Wreckers, talk about the jobsites, and gave them a glimpse at machinery our laborers are trained to operate . It was a pleasure as always , and we can’t wait to do it again next year. We can see our future, and it is BRIGHT 🦺🦺🦺

Thank you 1421 members for attending the annual BBQ we had in Tewksbury on July 12 . We estimate that over 300 members and loved ones came with their families. It is so good to see friends both new and old, families , and 1421s hardworking members and retirees all having fun together. Enjoying great food, playing games, and/or just relaxing. Every year we look forward to this event, because we are union strong and one big family. No one deserves it more than our hardworking laborers , and the ones they love . Please enjoy some photos from our get together 🙏and Thank you all for all you do . Please have a safe rest of your summer, and stop by the hall to grab the new 2026 member tee if you didn’t get to come to the cookout 🦺

Congratulations to the recipients of the 2026 Arthur E. Coia Scholarship, including an extra special congratulations to Amelia Crowe of Babson College . She is the daughter of our longtime member of Local 1421, of over 20 years, Stephen Crowe. We are so proud of Amelia , and can’t wait to see all that she can accomplish in her new chapters.
Since its inception in 1989, the fund has awarded over $3.5 million in scholarships to union member’s children, aiding over 650 recipients in their journey for higher education. We wish all of their recipients continued success as they begin this new journey in their life.

Sadly, Local 1421 Building Wrecker, Frank T. Coughlin, 44, passed away on June 15th, 2026 at Mass General Hospital in Boston. While holding hands with his wife and ever supportive partner of 22 years, Clarice (Candy). Frank unfortunately succumbed to congestive heart failure. A fight, he and his loved ones desperately wanted him to win.
As a laborer with Builders Wreckers Local 1421, Frank was never afraid of hard work and took pride in doing work that few others could.
Though his time was far too short, Frank leaves behind a lifetime of memories, laughter, and love. Those who knew him will carry his spirit with them always and remember him not for how he left this world, but for the joy, friendship, and love he brought to it.
ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours at O’Donnell Cremations – Funerals – Celebrations, 167 Maple St., (rte 62) DANVERS, Wednesday, June 24th from 4 to 7 P.M.
