You’re watching your brother or sister endure a pain no parent should ever have to know.

You’re hurting for the niece or nephew you won’t get to watch grow up. You’re hurting for your sibling whose heart is broken. You’re hurting for your parents as they mourn the loss of their grandchild.

And somewhere in the middle of everyone else’s heartache, you’re trying to make room for your own.

Aunts and uncles may feel the need to be strong for their family, quietly carrying a grief that doesn’t always get acknowledged. They may put their own pain aside because they don’t want to add to the burden their loved ones are already carrying.

But you can be heartbroken for your family and still be heartbroken for yourself. One doesn’t cancel out the other.

To every grieving aunt and uncle, you are seen, and your grief matters, too.

The strength and courage it takes for a mother to face the days, months, and years after stillbirth are beyond what most of us can imagine. And the love, care, and support she will need along the way extend far beyond the grief she has been forced to carry.

As she navigates through the shattered pieces of her heart, her body doesn’t know she’ll be going home with empty arms.

She has still given birth, and she will still go through the physical changes that come with childbirth. The cramping, the bleeding, the hormonal changes, and even the possibility of her milk coming in
—All constant reminders of the baby she never got to bring home.
