We’re excited to announce Anthony E. “Tony” McDowell, Executive Director of the Virginia Opioid Abatement Authority, as the keynote speaker for this year’s Reviving Hope in Our Backyard!

This year’s theme, Supporting Recovery: It’s the Right Thing to Do. It’s the Smart Thing to Do., challenges us to think about recovery not only in terms of individual lives, but in terms of what it makes possible for families, workplaces, and entire communities.

Tony brings an important statewide perspective to that conversation, and we’re looking forward to welcoming him to Southwest Virginia as we explore how supporting recovery can help build healthier families, a stronger workforce, and more resilient communities.

Healthcare should not depend on how close you live to a major city.

Appalachian Access is building a new front door to healthcare for rural communities—connecting people with patient navigation, specialty and virtual care resources, clinical-trial opportunities, community support, and future mobile clinic access.

We are beginning in Southwest Virginia, with a vision that reaches across Appalachia and, eventually, rural communities nationwide.

Our first digital platform is now being tested. Over the coming weeks, we’ll introduce its features, share our progress, and create opportunities for patients, providers, researchers, universities, and community organizations to become involved.

Follow Appalachian Access and share this page with someone who believes rural communities deserve better access to care.

Healthcare. Anywhere.

Great conversation with Joy Powers today. We talked about healthcare access, rural Appalachia, and the importance of meeting people where they are. As someone working every day to connect our communities to care, I always value the chance to share what we’re seeing on the ground and hear ideas from others who want to make a difference.
