2026 Indian River Fairgrounds Invitational- Boys 1st, Girls 2nd + 1 Individual Winner + 5 Medalists!

Tavares Red Sea Runners continued the momentum from last week's race with the boys evening the score with the girls, achieving their first win of the season with a solid all-around performance with all five scorers in the 11s. Our boys defeated a field of 15 teams once again led by Gabriel Garback and Jack Ilea in the top 10 and six boys in the top 25.

Our girls had a another stellar race, just a 3 points back of Boca Warriors in 2nd place out of 10 scoring teams. Alice Ilea won her 2nd race of the season running an incredible 10:56 with Kayla Santos and Amelia Hernandez medaled in the top 10. Tavares placed an incredible 8 runners in the top 25.

2026 Jim Ryun Invitational (Season Opener)- Girls 1st, Boys 2nd + 5 Individual Medalists + 2 Individual Race Winners!

This season's motto is "TR(US)T the PROCESS" and we could not be more proud of all the kids who put in all the hard work and miles over the summer. What an incredible start to the season and signs of growth from all of our runners!

Red Sea Runner Alice Ilea battled toe-to-toe with all-time great Brianna Motycka of Liberty Pines, racing to the line 2 seconds ahead for her first victory of the season. Motycka was named Florida Female Runner of the Year for both track and cross-country last season, with Alice ranked right behind her. That rivalry will be a great battle all season.

Our girls WON the team race in a field of 10 scoring teams with Alice Ilea (1st), Kayla Santos (6th) and Lilliana Gutfreind (8th) placing in the top 10 to medal. Tavares Red Sea placed 4 more in the top 25 overall with Amelia Hernandez (12th), Alizeah Miller (14th), Meadow Sadlemire (18th), and Emma Williams (23rd) securing the dominant victory with just 22 points, 27 points ahead of 2nd place.

The Tavares Red Sea boys placed 2nd overall out of 20 scoring boys teams, top school, led by 6th grader Jack Ilea (12th) and 7th grader Gabriel Garback (15th). Joel Cordero (20th), Alexis Hernandez (21st) and Alejandro Hernandez (29th) all scored for the team and were just 8 points shy of taking 1st place.

Our only two elementary kids who ran today dominated the field placing 1st and 2nd with Aliana Alvarez winning the 2K in 8:05 and Avery Maldonado in 2nd in 9:21.

This was a terrific season opener for our young, rebuilding team and shows the dedication of the kids and parents over the past several months.

2026 Mike Gibson Summertime 5K Race- Girls 1st! Boys 10th + Girls Individual Race Winner!

Our Tavares Red Sea middle and elementary school boys and girls shocked the 17-team high school XC field once again, with our girls winning the high school preseason 5K race with a score of 48 points, holding off 4A powerhouses Hagerty High School (55), Lake Mary HS (60), and Timber Creek High School (66). Our girls averaged an outstanding 20:49 average in the win, while our boys took 10th place averaging 19:45.

Eighth grader Alice Ilea won the individual crown for her 2nd consecutive Mike Gibson title, improving on her winning time from last year crossing the finish line in 19:21. Aliana Alvarez placed a close second in 19:35. In a field of 140 women, Kayla Santos also broke into the top 10 placing 9th in 21:01. Amelia Hernandez (22:00) and Lilliana Gutfreind (22:04) rounded out the scoring in the top 21 overall. Our entire team raced incredibly well in their only 5K race of the season as Avery Maldonado (34th, 23:34), Emma Williams (37, 23:45), Hope Nesmith (39th, 23:54), Arieyahna Neal (42nd, 24:05), Meadow Sadlemire (44th, 24:05), Brynlee Harris (48th, 24:24), Alizeah Miller (64th, 25:21), Hannah Norman (25:23), Anaisa Salinas (71st, 25:59), and Tinzleigh Murphy (76th, 26:23) all ran amazing against the much older high school field.

Our boys placed an impressive 10th out of 17 high school teams, remember our boys team ranges from 10-13 years old competing against 17-18 year old young men! Gabriel Garback led the way in 20th with an amazing 18:50 (he is a 7th grader!) and 6th grader Jack Ilea ran 19:05! Joel Cordero (20:05), Alexis Hernandez (20:05), and Alejandro Hernandez (20:35) all scored for Red Sea. Jett Forward (21:39), Elijah Rivera (23:39) and C**t Rumpza (24:10) all placed well in the 180-man race.

Thank you to all the parents who came out to support their kids and the program, this is an incredible result for our youth runners in a high school race and a great way to officially end the summer preseason as we transition to our 3K distance next week!

(Pre)-Preseason Red Sea Running Weekend!- Our runners were spread out all over the state and country!

In the final week before we release our outgoing 8th graders and high schoolers to their high school programs for the cross-country season, our kids ran final tuneup races to dial in that 5K distance and have fun before the competitive season kicks in!

Triple-H 5K, Bill Frederick Park, Orlando
Tavares Red Sea runners Emiliano Lozano (16:30) and Alice Ilea (19:22) won the boys and girls 5K race with Navid Lozano (16:31), Jack Ilea (19:24), Kayla Santos (20:55), Emma Williams (23:59), Alizeah Miller (26:03) won age group awards. Joel Cordero, Dylan Leavitt, Alexis Hernandez, Alizeah Miller, Hannah Norman, and Tinzleigh Murphy all placed in the top 10 in their gender overall.

First Gen 5K, Baseline Trailhead, Ocala
Red Sea 8th grader Hope Nesmith won her first ever 5K, placing 1st with a time of 21:50 and winning a $50 gift card.

Ninja 5K, Lake Beresford Park, DeLand
Red Sea runners swept the boys and girls 5K races with Gabriel Garback (19:20) winning for the boys and Meadow Sadlemire (25:37) winning for the girls.

Clermont ParkRun, Lake Hiawatha Preserve
Liam Ilea (17:19) was our top Red Sea runner with Nicholas Alvarez and Eric Chen close behind. Aliana Alvarez (20:37) and Laken Hartley (20:45) were two of the top female finishers with solid results from Seth Manion, Emmitt Maldonado, Jett Forward, Sophia Maldonado, Cheyenne Thomas, Emily Santos, Farren White, Avery Maldonado, and Anaisa Salinas.

AAU Junior Olympics, Des Moines, Iowa
Isabella Neal and Arieyahna Neal competed unattached in the 3000m after competing in the 800m and 1500m earlier in the week.

2026 Brevard Distance Runners Camp (BDRC), Day #8. The final ride home! First, special thanks to a few people who helped make our camp another great experience- Johnny, who came along as parent-driver, Tim, who made the drive late in the week to join our team and lead the John Rock run, and Emily, Lacey, and Kayla, our former runners who returned to BDRC this year to participate in the camp as high school graduates and Junior Counselors. We stopped and continued the tradition of a 3K time trial race at Alligator Lake in Lake City, won by Team Nick. Then we swam at Ichetucknee Springs in Fort White. Another great camp and congratulations and thank you to everyone involved!

2026 Brevard Distance Runners Camp (BDRC), Day #7. As is our tradition the day we leave camp, our team searches for a rock from the creek where we will paint the rock and add our names to it. We began the 2-day drive back home to Tavares by stopping for a 4mile easy, rolling hills run at Issaqueena outside Clemson University at Holly Springs Trailhead. We took kids to the amazing fast food restaurant, Cookout, where you can order a ton of awesome food items for a great price. In the evening, we stopped by the Feezor home in Warner Robins, Georgia, for the 4th consecutive year for pizza, games, ice cream, and fun! Special thanks to the Tim Feezor, JulieAnn Thompson Feezor, and Don Feezor for hosting our entire team once again. The kids had a great time and just one more sleep until everyone is back home!

2026 Brevard Distance Runners Camp (BDRC), Day #6. John Rock Graduation Run! The boys chose to be World Cup teams with Coach Von Maxey as a referee while Coach April led the girls as Disney Princesses. The 5.5 mile roundtrip run/hike ends on the top of the mountain but the clouds were not cooperating today so we didn't get much of a view. After brunch, we took the kids tubing down the French Broad River in nearby Rosman. Coach Von Maxey played the piano for Sophia who sang "How Far I'll Go" in the talent show and Liam sang a song from "The Wizard of Oz" while Emmitt and Alexis mimed a dance. Our team slide celebrated our team and program success, including winning both boys and girls xc championships last year, our 9th state titles overall. After the dance and bingo, the boys retired back to the village apartment where Coach VM played guitar and the team had a sing-a-long.
