🍹🦜Meet our third cast member taking over our Instagram on opening day of Escape to Margaritaville!🦜🍹

Shikita Hill, a Lake County resident of 40 years, is honored to return to the stage at Bay Street Players after more than 30 years and is excited to be cast as Marley, working alongside such an incredible group of individuals. She was first introduced to Bay Street Players by Deborah J. Carpenter, who was also a substitute teacher at Eustis High School during her 10th grade year. Deborah J. Carpenter, a key founder of Bay Street Players and creator of the Young People’s Theatre program, left a legacy that continues to inspire generations.

Beyond the stage, Shikita is a passionate instructor and community leader who enjoys giving back as the owner of EmpowerU 1st, offering social services that support and empower individuals. Even after retiring from the criminal justice profession, she remains deeply committed to serving her community. In her free time, she cherishes spending time with her favorite people—because for Shikita, her favorite place is wherever they are.

Don’t miss what Shikita has to share on 06/05!

🌊🌴Here’s another “behind the scenes” look at Jimmy Buffet’s Escape to Margaritaville rehearsals!🌴🌊

Today is an exciting update for any Broadway fans out there! Can you recognize who the cast was on a video call with on the second slide? (I’ll give you a minute)
If you guessed, “The original Broadway cast’s Brick from Escape to Margaritaville, Eric Peterson,” you guessed right!

Here’s some “behind the scenes” insight from our Tully, Jon Nettles:

“In this production, Jon is challenging himself by incorporating live guitar into an acting role for the first time. While he has been a guitarist and singer for half his life and began acting nearly a decade ago, this show marks the first time he will combine all three skills on stage.

His favorite part of the rehearsal process has been creating new friendships and collaborating with such a talented group of people. The supportive environment created by the cast and creative team has made it a joy to give his all to every rehearsal.

Jon is particularly excited to share the stage again with fellow cast members from The Lightning Thief, especially Claire, who plays Tully’s love interest, Rachel.

When he’s not on stage acting or at work, Jon helps host the recently launched Center Stage One Podcast, where he interviews creative professionals across Central Florida.

Can’t wait to see you in Margaritaville!!!”

That’s it for today’s rehearsal update! In the meantime, why not get your tickets for the show?

🌊✈️Are you ready to meet cast member #2 who will takeover our Instagram for a day? ✈️🌊

Here’s a quote from Stefanie to get to know her!

“My name is Stefanie Hibbert, and I am the proud owner of Posh Dining & Charcuterie, where I pour my heart and creativity into every dish I create. Cooking has always been more than a career for me — it is my passion, my love language, and one of the ways I connect with people and community. I am deeply spiritual and believe in healing, growth, and creating spaces filled with peace, authenticity, and positive energy. I am also an author of ten books, including spoken word collections and two short stories, where I share my journey through spiritual transformation while bringing awareness to mental health and healing. Ever since I was young, I have dreamed of acting in a play or musical, especially because my favorite movie is Rent, which inspires me with its passion, emotion, and artistic expression. When I signed up to audition for a play, I honestly never thought I would get a callback, and I had absolutely no clue how to prepare because it was my very first audition. I didn’t even have anything prepared, so I sang “Happy Birthday,” and somehow they loved it. By the second audition, I felt less nervous and truly enjoyed reading scenes and singing the prepared pieces. I am so grateful for my friends and family who encouraged me to step outside of my comfort zone and audition in the first place. Now rehearsals are some of my favorite moments because we laugh constantly, have our inside jokes, and have become like a little family together.”

Come back on 06/04 to hear what Stefanie has learned “on the island”! 🏝️

Today, we want to look back on an important day for Bay Street Players, as well as Lake County.

On March 27th, in partnership with ADI and due to a grant from the Charles B Mclin and Mary M Mclin Foundation, Bay Street Players was able to provide the first ever audio described theatrical performance in Lake County with The Lightning Thief.

Because of generous support through the community, whether through donations or by coming to watch our shows, we are proud to announce our second audio described show for the low-vision and blind community with Escape to Margaritaville on June 19th.

We are so thankful for all the work ADI does in Florida and for New Vision for Independence for showing up for us and supporting our productions and theatre. Because of you, we can continue to make theatre more accessible for all.

We invite everyone to our ADI night to enjoy live theatre, and if you’ve never heard of audio description, we invite you to ask us about it, even if it is to learn how it works and how it helps the community. If you are looking to reserve a device for yourself, we welcome you back and greet newcomers with open arms.
