The following was posted by Emerald Coast Wildlife Refuge today at 4 PM. It is with crushing sadness that we announce that Dobby has passed. Her FB page will continue, in her memory. She was loved by many people across the world. She informed so many about Virginia Opossums and her FB page will continue her legacy. Continue to follow us. While Petunia can never replace her, Petunia will carry on with opossum news. Thank you for your love and devotion to Dobby.
FROM EMERALD COAST WILDLIFE REFUGE:
It is with heavy hearts that we have to announce the passing of our hairless opossum, Dobby. Dobby was nearly three years old, which is often the life expectancy for wild Virginia Opossums. She was dealing with some medical issues including alopecia, besnotia, and some chronic skin issues. ECWR has been providing her with the best medical care possible throughout her life. She was loved by many and will be dearly missed. We appreciate all of you who have sent her wonderful gifts, donated to the Refuge, and overall helped us spread the word about wildlife care. We couldn't do what we do without your support!
Dobby's Memorial Habitat
Dobby's legacy will live on through the opossum habitat in our new location, where we will be able to care for and rehabilitate her fellow opossums. If you'd like to donate to its construction, you may do so on our website at emeraldcoastwildliferefuge.org, mail in a check, or drop it by the refuge (our address is 105 Santa Rosa Blvd, Fort Walton Beach FL 32548). Donors of $100 or more will be listed on the habitat plaque honoring her memory upon its construction later this year. Please be sure to include a note saying that the donation is for Dobby's memorial habitat and the name you would like inscribed.
