Help send Tacoma Rowing to Nationals!

Congrats to Blake Williams on winning the dropdown bid to USRowing Youth Nationals in the Mens U17 1x. Blake’s been a part of this team from some of its earliest days (see second picture of baby Blake). His hard work and determination this year have paid off in a big way. Let’s help him (and his boat!) get to Sarasota, FL. Use QR code or see donation link in profile.

Look what you did!

In September, our youth athletes completed 16 straight hours of rowing on ergs during our annual Ergathon and our community SHOWED UP! Part of the funds raised allowed Tacoma Rowing to purchase a wake-less launch which allows coaches closer access to the rowers on the water and contributes to the overall safety of our growing team.

Thanks for making this possible!

Spring Sprints 2026 on Lake Stevens is in the books! Our youth rowers ran point on nearly every organizational aspect of the day, including efficiently reloading the boat, so our team was ready to roll out after putting in a hard days work. Proud of the way these athletes continue to show up for one another. This is what it’s all about: Empowering our youth and building community through rowing.

Tacoma Rowing supports the Parks Tacoma Bond!

Proposition 1 is a $155 million bond measure in Tacoma aimed at funding over 100 projects across parks, community centers, and zoos, without increasing current property tax rates. If approved, it will address urgent infrastructure needs and enhance local parks over the next six years.

Part of the package of projects to be funded would be final design of Waterway Park and the boathouse.

We value active recreation for all, especially increasing access to our beautiful Commencement Bay!

Ballots are due April 28.

Congratulations to our youth athletes on two great days of racing (and what felt like 8 different weather patterns) at the Covered Bridge Regatta.

The race was held at Lowell State Park outside of Eugene Oregon this past weekend. Competition included teams from Washington, Oregon, California, Nevada and Utah.

Tacoma Rowing had 15 entries, almost double the number we had in 2025.

Highlights include:
- New club records at this regatta in multiple events
- 3 athletes raced in singles for the first time at this event
- One of our beloved coxswains rowed in three races in addition to coxing
- No one injured by the flying tents on Saturday afternoon

Hard work, teamwork, Tacoma!

Up next on the schedule, our first ever trip to race on Lake Stevens on Saturday 18 April.

Earlier this week, someone broke into the cargo container at our site. The contents were ransacked and things are a mess. $10,000-12,000 worth of items were taken including all of the electronics we used the boats (speed coaches and cox boxes), our AED, our tools boxes which contained all of our tools and spare parts.

After paying our insurance deductible, we Hope to be able to recover the costs to replace the items listed above. However, the cost to improve security at our site will be significant.

Speaking with the athletes earlier this week, we reiterated that it is important to keep the context in mind.

While we have significantly fewer resources compared to other rowing clubs, this is a reminder that we have a lot more than many people in our community.

While this is a challenge for us, current events such as the shootings at Brown University and in Australia, the war in Ukraine, etc. provide important context regarding the scale of this challenge, reminders about the work we are doing and the world we hope our athletes go on to shape beyond their time with Tacoma Rowing.

2025 was a year of significant progress for our growing club. We will choose focus on that.
