Contemplating your next steps? Consider taking the risk and betting on yourself. Whether you choose to serve as an interpretative ranger or field crew member, this program may just change your life. Many participants have said exactly that “this program changed my life” - Mel, 29, pictured above

Sometimes our projects involve using antiques! Yes, antiques! The draw knives we use to peel bark off conifers to build native timber structures for trail work are antiques. Why? because, like crosscut saws, the best ones were made in their heyday during the early 1900s when hand peeling logs 🪵 was still the best practice. Our field crew members learn all about hand tools and tool maintenance as part of their training to prepare them for their season ahead and for careers beyond SCA NH Conservation Corps.

Hard to believe it’s already been a week since we all gathered at Spruce Pond Camp for the 30 year SCA New Hampshire Reunion. Folks traveled from far and wide to join together to celebrate the magic of Bear Brook. There were folks from year 1 at Monadonack all the way to folks who just left a few weeks ago from the 2024 season. We even had a special message from SCA founder Liz Putnam and a proclamation from the state! We appreciate all the help from staff, alumni, and friends to help make this such a special weekend. We can’t wait to see what the future holds. Till next time 👋🏼

The Reunion begins ! We are excited to welcome alumni, family, and friends back to Bear Brook 🐻 to celebrate 30 years of this wonderful program! Here are some tips and tricks navigating your way into camp. Follow the signs from Deerfield Road into the park and keep LEFT to the winter road/campground. Whether you are staying in the campground or a cabin in Spruce Pond camp or staying in town, please use the campground road. Next you’ll find a pop up tent with sign in materials if you are staying in the campground, stop here and claim a spot, please visit this first because we are trying to stick to specific areas to help our partners, State Parks, have an easier time officially shutting down after our reunion. State park staff will be selling firewood tonight fr 4-8pm only; If you choose to have a fire please be aware there is high wildfire risk and do not leave your fire unattended at any time and douse it with water till it’s cold to the touch before you leave/go to bed. If you are staying at spruce pond camp continue on through the campground. Please park in the parking designated for your cabin, if you don’t remember, ask ! Please park as tight as possible to maximize spots. Do NOT park by the lodge. There are staff cabins down there and we are trying to reserve spots for folks that have various needs for accessibility. Last, we remind everyone this is NOT going to be like when you lived here so please check the white board in the lodge for dos and don’t as well as other signs around camp (some pictured above). The lodge kitchen is NOT available for use of the stove, dishes, or jackson for cleaning. Please only use the kitchen for getting drinking water. Finally, we ask you leave camp, the campground, cabins, etc better than you found it :) STOKED is an understatement for how we feel about this weekend! Have fun and be safe at this family friendly event !

Remember that bridge we were working on in Sullivan County working with the Sovereign Abenaki Nation? Here’s the big reveal and a behind the scenes look at the crew that accomplished it!! It was able to handle not just an atv but a Kei Truck with an important human in tow - Chief Paul! This bridge took a lot of sweat to make but boy was it fun. Projects like this give our participants a sense of purpose alongside confidence in their abilities in the work itself. This is that special sauce that makes working for conservation corps a meaningful experience beyond job training, its skills and experiences that will translate into life beyond this field of work.
