VOTE YES ON ARTICLE 18
Allenstown residents, with the vote coming up on March 10th, we wanted to share the effects a default budget may have on the community.
The overall town budget increase asked for this year would cost each household approximately $52 for the year.
As we learned last year, there can be great consequence if we vote in a default budget. Last year the citizens lost their curbside trash pick up. This year could bring the same.
If the voters vote down the proposed operating budget, the following effects could take place.
For the Fire Department, it could mean a reduction in staffing. With this, your ambulance and fire engine may not get out the door for your emergency. That means a surrounding community would have to send one if THEY are not already busy. It would cause one to come from further than the next town over, delaying critical care that you may need or letting a fire grow bigger.
In addition, the revenue that insurance companies pay for ambulance transports would go to another town causing a bigger financial problem as the taxpayers would foot the difference.
Also, if voted down, there could be a loss of police coverage overnight and the highway department may not be able to get your roads paved.
So for $52 for the whole year (less than a family meal at a restaurant), please vote yes on the town budget warrant article. It could add to more loss of services to the citizens of Allenstown if you don’t.
Please read your voters guide to be informed before you go!
