As you know, Sula Fire is fundraising this year to replace Engine 9012 with a "new to us" engine. The T-shirts were a huge success and we thank everyone who supported the sale. Shirts can be seen from coast to coast and Hawaii! During the T-shirt sale and pick up, many residents requested Sula Fire HOODIES, so we are doing a Fall Hoodie Sale. The hoodies will be $40 each and all profits will go toward purchasing the new Engine. If you are ordering 2XL or 3XL, these will be $50, solely because the sweatshirt costs $10 more than the other sizes. They will be Olive/Military Green. Here is a picture of the shirt, front and back.
The hoodies will be ordered from the vendor on Friday, October 9, first thing in the morning. Pick up times will be scheduled for the last week of October. If you need to have your shirts shipped, the shipping charge will be determined after you place your order and they will ship once payment is received. You will pay for the shirts at pick up or before shipping.
For the Youth Sizes, these do NOT come in Olive Green, so they will be a HUNTER GREEN with WHITE graphics. Picture of the color is included.

🔌 SAFETY SERIES: Extension Cord Safety 🔥

Extension cords are convenient, but they’re designed for temporary use — not permanent wiring. Damaged, overloaded, or improperly used cords can create a serious fire hazard.

A few simple reminders:

🔌 Never run extension cords under rugs or carpet.
⚡ Don’t overload cords or power strips.
✂️ Replace cords that are cracked, frayed, or damaged.
🏠 Use outdoor-rated cords when using them outside.
🔥 Plug space heaters directly into a wall outlet — never into an extension cord or power strip.

Before plugging in, take a few seconds to check your cords. A convenient cord isn’t worth a fire.

🇺🇸 WE WILL NEVER FORGET — SEPTEMBER 11, 2001 🇺🇸

Today, Sula Fire District joins communities and first responders across the nation in remembering the lives lost on September 11, 2001.

We remember the 2,977 lives taken that day in New York City, at the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, and aboard Flight 93 in Pennsylvania.

We honor the 343 FDNY firefighters, as well as the law enforcement officers, EMS personnel, military members, and other first responders who answered the call.

We remember those who ran toward danger to help complete strangers. We remember the passengers and crew of Flight 93 whose courage saved countless others. We remember the families who never saw their loved ones come home, and those who continue to live with the effects of that day.

More than two decades later, their courage, service, and sacrifice remain a powerful reminder of what it means to answer the call when others need us most.

New York. Virginia. Pennsylvania.
We remember them all.

🔥 COLD TO THE TOUCH — THAT’S WHEN IT’S OUT. 🔥

As we head into Labor Day weekend, many of us will be spending time camping, gathering around fire pits, and enjoying the outdoors. If a fire is part of your weekend, make sure putting it completely out is part of the plan.

A campfire may look like it’s out, but hot coals and embers can hold heat long after the flames are gone.

💧 Drown it with plenty of water.
🥄 Stir it — mix the ashes and embers thoroughly.
💧 Drown it again to make sure nothing is still holding heat.
✋ Check for heat carefully before walking away.

Never leave a campfire unattended, and don’t assume that because you can’t see flames, the fire is out.

🔥 If it’s too hot to touch, it’s too hot to leave.

One forgotten ember can be all it takes.

Enjoy your Labor Day weekend, enjoy the outdoors, and help protect the place we call home.

🚨 SMOKE ALARMS EXPIRE — CHECK THE DATE! 🚨

When was the last time you checked the age of your smoke alarms?

Smoke alarms don’t last forever. Most should be replaced when they reach 10 years from the date of manufacture, or sooner if recommended by the manufacturer. The date can usually be found on the back or side of the alarm.

Take a few minutes today to check yours:

🔴 Test smoke alarms monthly.
🔴 Check the manufacture date on every alarm in your home.
🔴 Replace the entire alarm when it reaches its replacement age — not just the battery.
🔴 Make sure you have alarms inside every bedroom, outside each sleeping area, and on every level of your home.
🔴 Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions for your specific alarm.

If you find an alarm from 2016 or earlier, now is a good time to check whether it’s due for replacement.

A working smoke alarm can give you and your family valuable time to get out when seconds matter.

A beep tells you it works today.
The date tells you when it’s time to replace it.

🔥 THAT LINT IS FUEL. 🔥

Cleaning the lint trap may seem like a small chore, but it’s an important part of preventing dryer fires.

Lint can build up not only in the filter, but also inside the dryer vent and exhaust system, restricting airflow and creating a fire hazard.

A few simple habits can make a difference:

🧺 Clean the lint filter after every load
🏠 Check and clean the entire dryer vent regularly
👀 Make sure the outside vent flap opens freely and isn’t blocked
🔥 Watch for warning signs like longer drying times, unusually hot clothes, or a burning smell
🌙 Never run the dryer when you’re away from home or asleep

Take a few minutes to check your dryer and vent. A little maintenance today can help prevent a fire tomorrow.
