🚨 SMOKE ALARMS EXPIRE — CHECK THE DATE! 🚨

When was the last time you checked the age of your smoke alarms?

Smoke alarms don’t last forever. Most should be replaced when they reach 10 years from the date of manufacture, or sooner if recommended by the manufacturer. The date can usually be found on the back or side of the alarm.

Take a few minutes today to check yours:

đź”´ Test smoke alarms monthly.
đź”´ Check the manufacture date on every alarm in your home.
🔴 Replace the entire alarm when it reaches its replacement age — not just the battery.
đź”´ Make sure you have alarms inside every bedroom, outside each sleeping area, and on every level of your home.
🔴 Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions for your specific alarm.

If you find an alarm from 2016 or earlier, now is a good time to check whether it’s due for replacement.

A working smoke alarm can give you and your family valuable time to get out when seconds matter.

A beep tells you it works today.
The date tells you when it’s time to replace it.

🔥 THAT LINT IS FUEL. 🔥

Cleaning the lint trap may seem like a small chore, but it’s an important part of preventing dryer fires.

Lint can build up not only in the filter, but also inside the dryer vent and exhaust system, restricting airflow and creating a fire hazard.

A few simple habits can make a difference:

🧺 Clean the lint filter after every load
🏠 Check and clean the entire dryer vent regularly
👀 Make sure the outside vent flap opens freely and isn’t blocked
🔥 Watch for warning signs like longer drying times, unusually hot clothes, or a burning smell
🌙 Never run the dryer when you’re away from home or asleep

Take a few minutes to check your dryer and vent. A little maintenance today can help prevent a fire tomorrow.

Sula Rural Fire District has been made aware that residents are receiving phone calls where the Caller ID displays “Sula Rural Fire” and our non-emergency number, 406-821-9945.

These calls are NOT coming from Sula Rural Fire District.

The caller has reportedly been asking personal questions. Please do not provide any personal or identifying information.

Our non-emergency number may be spoofed, making the call appear to come from Sula Rural Fire District. SRFD does not make outgoing calls from this number.

If you receive one of these calls, hang up and do not provide any information.

Please share this post and help us make sure our neighbors and community are aware.

This year’s Firemen’s Ball fundraiser is all about helping us replace Engine 9012, which has served our community for 50 years and is ready to retire. Proceeds will go toward purchasing a “new to us” fire engine for Sula Rural Fire District.

Tickets are available from any Sula firefighter, EMT, or trustee. If you don’t know someone to purchase from, email [email protected] and we’ll connect you with someone nearby.

Recent precipitation, cooler temperatures, and higher humidity have improved conditions across the Bitterroot National Forest.

Effective 12:01 a.m. August 19:
➡️ Fire danger decreases from EXTREME to HIGH
➡️ Stage 2 Fire Restrictions are lifted on the Bitterroot National Forest

While this is welcome news, HIGH fire danger still means fires can start easily and spread rapidly. Recent moisture helps, but our fuels can dry out quickly.

If you have a campfire, please keep it attended and make sure it is completely extinguished and cold to the touch before leaving.

🔥 Restrictions may be lifted, but fire season isn’t over.

Please continue to use caution and help protect the Sula community and the Bitterroot Valley.

⚡ SULA FIRE DISTRICT SAFETY SERIES: DON’T BE YOUR OWN ELECTRICIAN ⚡

Electrical problems can turn into serious fires quickly. That tripping breaker, flickering light, warm outlet, or burning smell may be warning you that something isn’t right.

A few things to remember:

🔌 Extension cords are temporary, not permanent wiring.
⚠️ Don’t ignore breakers that repeatedly trip.
🔥 Warm, discolored, or damaged outlets and switches need attention.
🛠️ Electrical tape doesn’t turn an unsafe connection into a safe repair.
⚡ Never install a larger breaker just to stop one from tripping.

If a breaker keeps tripping, don’t defeat the warning — find the problem.

When electrical work is beyond a simple homeowner task, call a qualified electrician. A shortcut isn’t worth the risk of shock, injury, or fire.
