Scammers may call or message residents claiming they missed jury duty and must immediately pay a fine to avoid arrest. They often use threatening language, spoof official phone numbers, and demand payment through gift cards, cryptocurrency, wire transfers, or payment apps.
Legitimate courts and law enforcement agencies do not resolve missed jury service by demanding immediate payment over the phone. Do not provide personal information or send money. End the call and independently contact the court using an official number.
Pressure is a tactic. Verification is protection.
Share this warning with family members, especially older adults, and report suspected fraud to the appropriate authorities.

Sugar Land Police are seeking the public’s help identifying a suspect in an aggravated assault that seriously injured a woman earlier this summer.
The assault occurred Friday, June 5, 2026, at approximately 10:25 a.m. near Creekbend Drive and Fluor Daniel Drive in Sugar Land. The victim reported that she was walking in the area when an unknown man approached her from behind and attacked her with a baseball bat. She sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
As part of the ongoing investigation, the victim recently met with a forensic sketch artist to develop a composite sketch of the suspect. Police are releasing the sketch in hopes that someone may recognize the individual or have information that could help investigators identify him.
The suspect is described as a Black male believed to be in his 30s or 40s. Following the assault, he was seen leaving the area in an SUV. The victim was unable to provide a definitive color of the vehicle.
The case remains under investigation. Anyone who recognizes the individual depicted in the sketch, witnessed suspicious activity in the area at the time of the assault or has other information that could assist investigators is urged to contact the Sugar Land Police Department at 281-275-2020 or Fort Bend County Crime Stoppers at 281-342-TIPS (8477)
