The Choptank / Tolomato Legacy Project

We teach cultural literacy through the creation of public art focussed on regional legends and lore.

We facilitate hands-on p***c mural and childhood literacy projects focusing on regional history.

06/16/2026

The artists of Crossroads Community & Corsica River Mental Health Cambridge have started prepping the wall for their Groove City Mural! The participants have been painting panels based on vintage posters for several months.

The wall will feature imagery of James Brown, Fats Domino, Billy Holiday, W.C. Handy and about a dozen other notable musicians who played the Pine Street music scene from about 1920 to 1960.

The artists of Crossroads Community & Corsica River Mental Health in Chestertown worked on blocking panels for the Galena Elementary School - Galena, Maryland Rural Mural and independent studio projects for our upcoming trunk show at local farmers markets in late June!

We want to thank the Maryland State Arts Council for their generous sponsorship of our arts education projects across the Eastern Shore!

We had a busy morning at the Chestertown Farmers' Market working on the Maryland State Arts Council Public Arts Across Maryland sponsored Galena Elementary School - Galena, Maryland Community Mural!

We had a great day at the Af Whitsitt Center in Chestertown working on the Kent County Local Management Board sponsored Chesapeake Icon Mural!

We also want to acknowledge the Kent Cultural Alliance and the Kent County United Way whose generous funding, along with KLMB, has allowed us to put together a total of thirteen workshops at Whitsitt offering a variety of studio experiences for clients at the center.

We had a busy day at Crossroads Community & Corsica River Mental Health in Centreville working on independent studio projects and working on the lay out of murals planned for the region.

We want to thank the Maryland State Arts Council for their generous financial support of our arts in education programming across the region!

Today the artists of Galena Elementary School - Galena, Maryland worked on the Galena Rural Mural!

The project features imagery displaying the history of the Sassafras River watershed including endangered and invasive species.

Over the next 18 months the mural will be created on portable panels at Galena Elementary, Crossroads Community centers, the AF Whitsitt Center, and public events across the region including the Chestertown Farmers' Market.

The mural will be installed at Galena Elementary in late summer 2027.

This community arts initiative is fully sponsored by the Maryland State Arts Council Public Arts Across Maryland Program!

We had a busy day at Crossroads Community & Corsica River Mental Health in Cambridge working on the Groove City Mural panels and individual studio projects!

The mural - featuring musicians from the Pine Street music scene circa 1920 thru 1960 - is being created on a dozen panels which will become part of the project participants are designing and creating on the wall of the Crossroads building in Cambridge.

Our arts education programming is generously funded by the Maryland State Arts Council Arts in Education Program!

We had a great day at the Chestertown Farmers' Market working The Rural Mural Program’s Maryland State Arts Council sponsored Galena Elementary School - Galena, Maryland community mural!

Today we spent the afternoon working on the AF Whitsitt Center mural. The Kent County Local Management Board / Kent Cultural Alliance / Kent United Way sponsored project was designed and is being painted by clients at the center over a 10 week workshop schedule.
