What if walking away isn't failure? What if sometimes the most faithful thing you can do is recognize that something has reached the end of its purpose—and land the plane well? If you want something in your life to change, eventually you have to stop complaining about it and start taking responsibility for what you can actually control. That doesn't mean everything that happens to you is your fault. It means that change requires ownership. Even when circumstances are outsi...

Dad's: if there's one thing not to show your family - it's gotta be apathy. As fathers, our kids and wives pick up those signals, even if we don't think they are.

Show love and care, firmness and guidance. But don't show them apathy, because it's an absolute lack of emotion about them.

They'll never know where they stand with you.

The minor distractions are killing you. Not the big distractions. The little ones. The phone you check for just a minute. The urge to grab a snack. Facebook. The TV. The notification. The random thought that pulls you away from what you were doing. Individually, these things seem insignificant. But....

A lot of guys wonder, "How do I gain self-confidence? How do I overcome self-doubt?"

These are questions that a lot of guys won't ask.

I've dealt with it in certain respects, still deal with it.

And typically what happens, and this happens for a lot of guys, it's our failures or the opinions of others that determine: how confident do we actually feel?

The truth is you don't build confidence by telling yourself in the morning, "Be more confident. Believe in yourself."

You can do that till the cows come home, but you know what actually builds confidence?

Competence.

When you are competent in different areas, you have confidence in that area.

For example, if you have competence in working on cars, when a problem arises with your car, you feel confident, "I can figure it out."

And the more you master something, master a skill, the more confident you are.

It's not bragging, it's not boasting, you just know, "I'm good at this thing."

Competence is what builds confidence.

And the only way to build competence is to fail, is to go through adversity, is to test yourself and to persevere.

We avoid failure because failure hurts our confidence. It creates self-doubt. It hurts our self-image.

"I failed at this."

And what a lot of guys do, self included, we stay on that thing.

We decide, "I failed at this, I must suck."

If you can get past that and you can decide, "I'm going to go fail. I'm going to go fail often. I'm going to fail hard. I'm going to fail fast. I'm going to fail over and over and over again, but I'm going to learn something each time."

That's where you build resilience and competency.

You become resilient to the failures because you see the failures are opportunities.

There are moments in which you can learn.

Go, fail, become competent.

You will then be confident.

How do you gain self-confidence? How do you overcome self-doubt? These are questions a lot of men wrestle with—but often don't want to ask. In this episode of The Forged Man's Podcast, we tackle confidence from a different perspective: you don't build confidence by simply telling yourself to belie...

Parenting isn't one-size-fits-all. Some kids are naturally easygoing. Others are strong-willed, highly opinionated, and determined to test every boundary you put in front of them. If you're raising a tough kid, you're not alone. In this episode of The Forged Man's Podcast, I share a personal reflect...
