The eighth annual Running Bear Triathlon was held Aug 11th, under the beautiful blue skies of the Northwoods in Three Lakes, WI. With absolutely perfect conditions, a near record turnout completed the 15K bike ride, 3 mile run and 200 yard swim. This is a unique event that begins with the bike ride, ends with the swim and is a point to point route ending at the lakeside cabin of the hosts, Ed and Gwen Hutchins.
Claire Cuda, South Carolina, was the first female finisher with a time of 61:05. First male was John Denner, Bloomington, IL, at 54:09.
The Mary Stroebe Lifetime Fitness award for the most senior female participant, went to Pat Schutt of Mt. Horeb, WI. The Stroebe family donates $1,000 to Y of The Northwoods in her memory. Youngest female participant, Lily Krenek, 12. Youngest male participant, Aiden Krenek, 17.
The event raised over $5,000 to benefit Y of the Northwoods and Three Lakes youth sports. This event is sponsored by the Ed & Gwen Hutchins Foundation. Thank you KwikTrip stores for help in providing refreshments at the finish line. We also want to thank the Three Lakes police department, the Triangle Motel, Laurie Levandoski and the student volunteers, Swift Family Farms, and the many friends and neighbors who help to make this event successful.
