We would like to take a moment to recognize some of our members. The below pictures are from our recent mustering out and badge pinning ceremony. Firstly, Local 1557 would like to congratulate BC Jeff Vergauwen on his retirement. BC Vergauwen has served the citizens of Sterling Heights for the last 27 years and we wish him the best in retirement. Secondly, we would like to welcome all of our new members. SHFD pinned 23 new badges on recruits from several hiring groups over the last year. These new recruits are vital to our day to day operations and will make a great addition to our team. Lastly, remember to have a happy and safe 4th of July!🇺🇸🎆🇺🇸

It’s getting hot in Sterling Heights! ☀️ Make sure to stay cool and hydrated, drink plenty of water throughout the day and never leave children, older adults or pets in a parked vehicle.

Watch for signs of heat exhaustion, including heavy sweating, weakness, dizziness, headache, nausea, and cool, pale or clammy skin. If you notice these symptoms, move to a cool place, drink water and rest.

On Sunday May 3rd, SHFD once again competed in the annual American Lung Association Fight for Air Climb. This year was the first year the competition was held at Ford Field in Downtown Detroit. The team this year was comprised of Battalion Chief John Farah, Lt. Jonathan Feil, FF Michael Peterson, Probationary FFs Griffin Henke, Christopher Baxter and Nicholas Willson and they raised a combined total of $1018.94 for charity!

The pictured team members, from left to right: Griffen Henke, Michael Peterson, Christopher Baxter, and Jonathan Feil. They managed to bring the 1st place trophy back to Sterling Heights for fastest team in the competition with an average team time of 10.00.4 minutes to complete the 1581 steps of the race in full turnout gear!
