August: The Child Who Never Got Polio
Some of the greatest successes in the world are the ones we never see.
Most people have never met a child who was saved from polio because prevention doesn’t make headlines. Instead, it quietly changes lives. A child runs, plays, goes to school, and grows up without ever knowing what they were protected from.
Rotary’s first major polio immunization effort began in the Philippines in 1979. That work grew into the Global Polio Eradication Initiative. Today, Rotary and its partners have helped protect more than 3 billion children, reducing polio cases by more than 99.9% worldwide.
Every vaccinated child represents a future filled with possibility instead of paralysis.
