“After 8½ years and 1,600 deployments, EOD K-9 Roxy, a member of the GEMA/HS EOD K-9 Team, is retiring from the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office.

Today, GEMA/HS Field Coordinator Jonathan Jones, Homeland Security Coordinator Kimberly Cook, and Targeted Violence Prevention Coordinator David Shanks joined the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office in celebrating Roxy’s remarkable career alongside her handler, Lt. Eugene Kemp.

Since beginning her service in January 2018, Roxy has conducted searches of more than 37,000 environments, including nearly 20,000 rooms and more than 7,800 vehicles. She has supported 25 agencies and assisted with major security operations across Georgia, including Super Bowl LIII, the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the Taylor Swift Eras Tour, SEC and College Football Playoff games, Peachtree Road Races, and a presidential visit.

GEMA/HS is proud to support Roxy, Lt. Kemp, and EOD K-9 teams throughout Georgia in their mission to protect communities and keep the public safe.

Roxy’s final day of active service will be August 31. She will then enjoy a well-earned retirement at home with Lt. Kemp and his family. Thank you, Roxy, for your years of dedicated service—and congratulations on your retirement!”

“Four years of service, 1,489 deployments, and a job well done.

Today, we’re celebrating K-9 Jestina as she begins her well-deserved retirement.

Jestina joined the K-9 Unit in August 2022 and was assigned with Master Deputy D. Wood. Together, they worked at the Gwinnett County Jail, where Jestina played an essential role in detecting contraband.

Known for her dedication and commitment to her work, Jestina was a valued member of the Sheriff’s Office team. For her next chapter, Jestina will be living with her handler, Master Deputy Wood, where she can enjoy a well-deserved retirement.

The Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office is grateful for the difference Jestina made throughout her career.”

Seven years of service. Hundreds of deployments. One exceptional K-9.

K-9 Cino is officially retiring from the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office after more than seven years of dedicated service. Cino joined the K-9 Unit in May 2019 and was partnered with Sergeant N. Butler. Throughout their time together, they completed 235 detection deployments and 322 patrol deployments.

Cino’s work contributed to 274 arrests and the location of 150 individuals, while also supporting the seizure of approximately 419 pounds of ma*****na, 29 kilograms of methamphetamine, 11 kilograms of co***ne, 1 kilogram of he**in, and $125,000 in U.S. currency.

Beyond the stats, he was a dependable partner whose work made a meaningful difference to the Sheriff’s Office and the community he served. As Cino closes this chapter, he’ll be heading home with Sergeant Butler to enjoy the retirement he’s earned.

“Saying today was a hard day would be an understatement. We had to lay my longtime partner, friend, and family member to rest.

Cali lived a long 15 1/2 years, many of which she spent serving her country and her community. Cali started her heroic career as a member of the U.S. Army, assigned to the 7th Special Forces Group. Due to some unforeseen circumstances, her trainer and my good friend, Scott Zimmerman, reached out to see if our agency was in need of an explosives detection K9—which we were at the time.

Little did I know when I made the trip to Florida that I would be picking up the best little partner a K9 handler could ever ask for!

During her career, Cali worked multiple Masters Tournaments, the Super Bowl, NASCAR events, College Football Championships, and several dignitary assignments. She also served the citizens of Richmond County and the State of Georgia with great pride for seven years before her retirement.

Cali was so much more than a working K9. She was my partner, my friend, and part of my family.

She served well, loved well, and gave so much during her 15 1/2 years. She will truly be missed!

“Reporting for retirement, K-9 Armo!

After more than nine years of dedicated service, K-9 Armo is retiring from the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office, where he served as a Corporal.

Armo joined the K-9 Unit in May 2017 and spent his entire career alongside Sergeant J. Cotton. Together, they completed 300 operational deployments, contributing to 122 arrests and 83 individuals located.

Known for his reliability, dedication, and work ethic, Armo was a trusted partner and a valued member of the K-9 Unit. Now, Armo is trading his badge for a well-deserved retirement at home with Sergeant Cotton.

The Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office is grateful for the difference Armo made in our community.
