Graduate students at Columbia charge that union bosses are abusing their monopoly bargaining powers.

They contend union bosses are bargaining in bad faith to extract concessions from the university on radical policy proposals instead of improving the situation for graduate students.

All of this adds up to a union that is OUT OF CONTROL.

Clearly Wells Fargo employees across the country are coming to the realization that, despite CWA union bosses’ claims, they are better off without the union interfering in their relationship with their employer.

Workers at a fifth Wells Fargo Bank [RIC:RIC:WFC.UL] branch have ousted their union amid stalled contract negotiations, marking a reversal of momentum in an unprecedented foray by organized labor into retail banking.

One hundred years ago TODAY (May 20, 1926) Congress passed the Railway Labor Act, which grants union bosses the power to force railway workers and (after being amended in 1936) airline employees to pay union dues or be fired.

This extraordinary government-granted power to compel dues payments remains federal law despite decades of polls showing 8 in 10 Americans believe union membership and financial support should be strictly voluntary. [existing polling graphic?]

The RLA is especially egregious because under it airline and railway airline and railroad employees cannot enjoy the protection of state Right to Work laws currently on the books in 26 states.

Since the Foundation’s founding in 1968 the Foundation has defended numerous workers subject to the injustices enabled by RLA.

For example, last month Southwest Airlines flight attendant Charlene Carter was awarded nearly $1 million in damages following a nine years-long legal battle after union bosses instigated her illegal firing by Southwest after she questioned the political advocacy of union officials done in her name. [Screencap of headline about Carter win/payment]

Her federal lawsuit won Carter her job back, but outrageously because of the RLA to keep her job she is forced money to the very union officials that violated her civil rights.
