We are excited to celebrate our annual client reunion and picnic with your family! Bring a lawn chair/blanket and picnic dinner, and join us for a picnic in Meadow Park. Drinks and light refreshments provided. Grab some free baby clothes. Meet new friends. Partners and children welcome!

Help support the good work our partners at Black Thistle Street Aid do at their fundraiser tomorrow!

Black Thistle has been providing harm-reduction support and street outreach for 6 years. When Black Thistle identifies a person without shelter who is pregnant or just needs support with getting birth control, STI testing and treatment, referrals, pap smears, and more, they are connected with Our Community Birth Center where our midwives provide them with sensitive, trauma-informed care. Many unhoused individuals have had negative experiences with doctors and hospitals and put off getting the care they need. Our partnership with Black Thistle is one way we can help support persons without shelter get the health care they deserve, while simultaneously increasing rates of STI testing and treatment amongst this population and reducing the frequency of unnecessary emergency room visits.

Our partnership with Black Thistle Street Aid is supported by grant funding from Oregon Health Authority.

Yesterday was National Nonprofit Day and we can't think of a better way to have spent it than with our annual Board of Directors social!

Our Community Birth Center's Board of Directors is unique in that it is made up of entirely birth center parents. It's important to us that the birth center's governing body—those who help oversee our budgets and help with long-term planning—is invested in the work we do and has lived experience with our mission.

We are so grateful for this passionate group of birth center parents and their commitment to equitable access to birth center care.

Wildfire season presents challenges for all of us, and it can be especially harmful to pregnant persons. Here are some things you can do to reduce your exposure to wildfire smoke.

• Wear tightly-fitting N95 masks when doing outdoor activities, or if you plan on being outdoors for an extended period of time.

• Cover your home's door & window seams, cover vents.

• Use an air purifier. If you don’t have one, you can make one using a box fan and an air filter.

• DON'T open windows. Use fans and air conditioning to stay cool.

• DO visit a local indoor cooling station for heat relief.

• DON'T do anything that may worsen air quality indoors, including cooking or burning candles. Using unvented combustion appliances (such as barbecues, hibachis, camp stoves, or gas heaters) indoors for cooking and heating can lead to carbon monoxide poisoning.

We love putting together gift bags for our clients at Our Community Birth Center. We load up our pregnant clients with information about local resources, including Parenting Now, WellMama, Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, and Early Childhood Hub of Lane County, and they also receive a baby outfit, burp cloth, hat, and infant board book, and other fun goodies.

Local businesses have the option to be featured in our gift bags by coming on as a Community Partner. We are grateful for our current Community Partners: Every Kid Pediatric Dentistry, Avocado Doulas, Awesome Possum Pediatrics, and Nourishing Birth with Jen Nelson. We are so excited to celebrate with TransPonder at their Health Fair this Saturday, as they turn 10 this year!

Our Community Birth Center will have a table at this event and we will be giving out healthcare items, including hot/cold packs, travel wet wipes, safe s*x supplies--and as always, we will have snacks!
