United Way of Lane County

United Way of Lane County From advancing community well-being and youth opportunity to strengthening local resilience, United Way mobilizes communities to action so all can thrive.

We know that our communities’ greatest challenges – like financial instability, child care access, academic struggles, and workforce challenges, are deeply interconnected. So our role is to bring people and resources together to address them. Through cross-sector convening and strategy, fundraising and grantmaking, nonprofit capacity building, and volunteerism, we’re strengthening our communities’

ability to tackle challenges and ultimately improve outcomes for kids and families. We take a comprehensive, collaborative approach, actively listening and responding to local needs. To counter the disparate outcomes communities face within race/ethnicity, geography, income, and more, we actively work to dismantle barriers so everyone has equitable access and opportunity to thrive. Every day, our communities show that when people unite to take action, change is possible. Together, we're creating a future where everyone, everywhere can reach their full potential.

From May 26 through June 5, United Way of Lane County is hosting BookFest: a community-wide program distributing books to local K-2nd grade students to help them build their home libraries and to encourage a love of reading. But we need your help to make it happen!

We are looking for volunteers to join us at distribution events to help students select books they might want to take home. We also need volunteers to help next Wednesday, May 20 and Thursday, May 21 to sort and organize books prior to the distribution days.

It’s International Workers Day! Today, we celebrate the contributions of the thousands of passionate employees who make Lane County a great place to live.

But despite their hard work, 43% of households in our community still don’t make enough to make ends meet. And according to the 2026 Oregon Financial Wellness Scorecard, 48% of Oregonians are unable to cover a $500 emergency.

United Way of Lane County is working to increase awareness of the 43% of households living below the ALICE (Asset-Limited, Income-Constrained, Employed) threshold, and the barriers that they face to achieving financial stability. Learn more about ALICE in Lane County and how you can support ALICE households locally at unitedwaylane.org/alice.

Volunteers get things done in Lane County, including right here at United Way! We are fortunate to have the support of dozens of volunteers serving on committees, helping make the tough decisions that inform the way we show up in the community. From our Board of Directors, our Early Childhood Hub of Lane County Governance Consortium members, Community Investment Steering Committee volunteers, grant reviewers, and so many more, we are driven by the efforts of diverse, hardworking individuals who bring their lived experience to the table and prove that .

Our Community Investment Steering Committee and grant reviewers are hard at work, determining where the next cycle of United Way grants will go to best serve Lane County communities. Stay tuned later this spring to learn more!

United Way maybe be known to some for funding other international organizations, but United Way of Lane County invests all of our locally-raised dollars into agencies and initiatives improving lives here in Lane County! Our funded partners, including organizations such as Food For Lane County, Relief Nursery, Black Cultural Initiative, 15th Night, and more, are working hard to help move Lane County communities from surviving to thriving.

Community volunteers are currently reviewing applications now for our latest cycle of grant funding, and we look forward to announcing our next round of funded partners later this spring.
