Very dry weather, hot or cold, gives less scent but sometimes longer duration.

A sun-baked particle of protein may have no bacteria action - no scent.

Do you and your K9 have what it takes to make a difference? Central K9 Search and Rescue is expanding and we're looking for 5 dedicated K9 Handlers to join our incredible team! 💪
✅ Must be 18+
🐶 Must have your own qualified K9
🚗 Must have safe & reliable transportation for your K9
📅 Must be available for trainings, PR events, and real-world deployments
Make an impact. Save lives. Strengthen the bond with your K9 while serving your community. 💙

Two-thirds of scent given off by the subject is heavier than air. It falls to the grounds or blows alongside to the ground. These heavier scent particles form a trail.

Fact #4️⃣5️⃣
As the bacteria on the scent particles (skin cells) digests the proteins they convert the cells to vapors. The trailing dogs will follow this scent.

Fact #4️⃣6️⃣
The longer the bacteria work on the protein the more it is consumed until, at last, it’s all gone.
