We're proud to celebrate farmers today on National Farmers Day!

Thanks to all of the hard-working farmers among us who steward our land and feed our communities!

Visit a farmers market, buy local produce at your co-op, or take some time out of your day to thank a farmer for their essential work, but don't let it stop there. Farmers work hard everyday, so let's celebrate farmers today and everyday!

Today is Indigenous Peoples' Day!

Today and everyday, we celebrate the Indigenous communities of our region and beyond for their long-held the wisdom and stewardship of our lands.

We owe gratitude and acknowledgment to the Indigenous communities who have long stewarded this land that we all now share. This is especially important now as tribal communities are continue to struggle for sovereignty in their ways of hunting, fishing, gathering, and farming.

Marbleseed comes to the first citizens of Turtle Island (North America) offering respect and a deep appreciation for their knowledge of all the plants, animals, trees, soils, and medicine this region supports. We hold curiosity and a desire to learn from tribal partners, to be accountable for our actions, and to be a true partner in healing the land so that all ecosystems, natural communities, and species may thrive.

Wisconsin, the primary place of Marbleseed programming and operations, is home to eleven federally recognized indigenous tribal nations: Bad River Band of Lake Superior Chippewa, Ho-Chunk Nation, Lac Courte Oreilles Band of Lake Superior Chippewa, Lac du Flambeau Band of Lake Superior Chippewa, Menominee Tribe of Wisconsin, Oneida Nation, Forest County Potawatomi, Red Cliff Band of Lake Superior Chippewa, St. Croix Chippewa, Sokaogon Chippewa (Mole Lake), and Stockbridge-Munsee.

Our hope is that members of the Marbleseed community will join us in this journey — not just today, but every day — to learn from, partner with, pay respect to, and uphold the knowledge of Indigenous peoples of this region.

TODAY is officially DAF Day 2026!

A Donor Advised Fund (DAF) is a simple, flexible way to support organizations and causes you care about! A DAF is a charitable savings account (like a 401k for giving). By contributing through your DAF, you can set aside charitable dollars and recommend grants to non-profits!

What is DAF Day?

DAF Day is a national day of giving with donor advised funds. It’s already a powerful tool for any donor to accelerate their giving, but it has even greater potential when we all DAF together.

Do you love photographing the beauty of your farm? We'd love to feature your work on the cover of the 2027 Organic Farming Conference program!

The conference theme is: SEEDING OUR COLLECTIVE FUTURE. What does this theme mean to you? Please send photos that specifically evoke collectivism, the shared future, and — yes — seeds!

The contest winner will receive their choice of:

a) one free conference admission to the 38th Organic Farming Conference at Lake Lawn Resort in Devalan, WI (February 26-27, 2027)

OR

b) a farm profile in the spring Organic Broadcaster and two social media reels.

We're launching Marbleseed's Membership Program!

We believe a membership model will strengthen our financial resilience while reinforcing Marbleseed’s core values: shared leadership, mutual support, and collective investment in the future of organic farming. Membership is not a paywall; and farmers do not need to be members to access Marbleseed programming. Instead, membership is an invitation to intentionally join a community dedicated to the organic agricultural movement in the Midwest.

By becoming a Marbleseed Member, you’re expressing your affection for the organic community, and a dedication to care for it.

With a donation of any amount, you will automatically become a Marbleseed Member and are an integral part of the growing number of folks supporting our Midwest organic agriculture movement.

With a donation of $50 or more you have the option to receive a year-long print subscription to the Organic Broadcaster, our quarterly publication that features farmer voices, production-specific content, and other ideas and news related to our shared work.

TODAY Marbleseed Executive Director Lori Stern will join chef Laurel Burleson for a virtual cooking event for W***y Street Co-op and Edible Madison’s Eat Local Cooking Challenge!

The Eat Local Cooking Challenge is a community-wide effort to help folks incorporate more local ingredients into their everyday cooking. Those who want to participate in the challenge can purchase a limited-release Eat Local provisions box! This box is bursting with local goodies all available at W***y Street Co-op, including meat, cheese, dry goods and beverages.

Check out tonight's virtual cooking event hosted by Qwantese Winters where Lori and Laurel will craft delicious meals using only the Eat Local box ingredients. Get inspired for how to cook with your Eat Local provisions box and learn fun tips and techniques for creating meals everyday that celebrate local.

The event will be live streamed from W***y Street’s Aubergine Event Space. A recording will be provided the day following the event.

Lori has lived many sides of the local food system — as a farmer, restaurateur, advocate, and longtime supporter of the organic farmers who grow and raise the food that feeds our communities.

Tune in to see what Lori and Laurel cook up, and get inspired to make the most of local, seasonal ingredients in your own kitchen.

ONE WEEK AWAY!

Marbleseed Farmer of the Year Field Day

Join us next week at Prairie Bluff Farm, home of Pasture Patterns Eggs and Marbleseed’s 2026 Farmers of the Year, Steve and Beth Albert.

The Alberts will share how they organically manage their 1,500-hen egg operation with mobile coops that Steve designed to rotate the flock through their pastures.

We’ll also head out for a guided walk with Dane County Parks Natural Resource Manager Andy Paulios to explore how the Alberts are working with the neighboring county park to enhance wildlife habitat. Agronomists and conservationists will be there to join the conversation, too.

Come with questions, curiosity, or just a desire to spend some time on the farm.

Light locally sourced snacks from will be served.

Can bird habitat and prairie complement an operating farm? You betcha!

Join us for an engaging day on Steve and Beth Albert's Praire Bluff Farm home of Pasture Patterns Eggs.

The Alberts, who are Marbleseed's 2026 Farmers of the Year, are showcasing their organically managed egg layer farm. The Alberts raise about 1,500 chickens which spend most of their time in the mobile coops designed by Steve. Their customer base includes the greater Madison areas.

They are joined by Andy Paulios, Natural Resource Manager with Dane County Land & Water Resources Department. Andy will lead a guided walk to share how the Alberts have worked with the neighboring county park to enhance bird habitat. Agronomists and conservationists will be on site to help with discussion and production curiosities. Light locally sourced snacks will be served.
