The Pennsylvania Forestry Association (PFA) is the nation’s oldest grass roots state organization devoted to forest conservation. Its membership spans private forest land owners, foresters, loggers, forest industry, academia, government agencies, and anyone interested in sustaining Penn’s Woods. PFA is also the administrative home to the Pennsylvania Tree Farm Program which stems from the American

WOODLAND STEWARDSHIP CAN HELP!
Join us Saturday, May 30th for a unique on‑site visit offering participants the chance to see firsthand the questions and considerations a new woodland owner faces when deciding how to care for their property. You’ll be able to observe real‑time dialogue between forest resource professionals and the landowner as they walk the property together.

The tour will highlight:
•20 acres of woodlands including 4 acres clearcut
•Wildlife habitat
•Invasive plant control and cost sharing available to help to accomplish project
•Landowner goals and long‑term stewardship options

This event is perfect for:
•New woodland owners unsure where to begin
•Experienced landowners seeking fresh ideas for sustainable management
•Scouts working on forestry merit badges
•Students, teachers, and conservation enthusiasts
•Anyone interested in forest stewardship

The tour will be led by the Schuylkill County Conservancy’s Woodland Stewardship Committee, Will Thomas, Service Forester with the PA DCNR Bureau of Forestry, and Philip Hackenberg, private forestry consultant who wrote the plan.

This event is free and open to the public. Please dress appropriately for the weather and for walking in a forest setting.

Each year at its annual meeting and symposium, the Pennsylvania Forestry Association (PFA) recognizes an individual, organization or group’s significant contributions to the public recognition of the importance of Pennsylvania’s forest resources in the same tradition and spirit of Dr. Joseph T. Rothrock. Dr. Rothrock served as the first president of PFA and earned the title, “Father of Forestry in Pennsylvania,” through his untiring efforts to promote the forest conservation movement in Pennsylvania.

Please submit all nominations to [email protected] by Sept. 1, 2026.
NOMINEES FOR THE AWARD WILL BE EVALUATED ACCORDING TO THREE SELECTION CRITERIA:

Value of contributions to the continued conservation of Pennsylvania’s forest resource. (60%)
Public recognition and stature of the individual in the field of resource conservation. (30%)
Other Unique or special considerations which demonstrate a long-term commitment to conservation. (10%)
Nominations for the award should address these three criteria in appropriate detail.
