Wow, what a morning! The 24th annual Gosport Elementary School (GES) Back-to-School Parade was full of community spirit, despite the blazing high heat and humidity on Friday, Sept. 4, 2026!

The young Gosport Indians showed up strong, marching from GES through downtown with amazing energy, holding their handcrafted signs, waving flags, and getting everyone pumped for the new school year.

Be sure to look for additional photos from today's parade in the upcoming Sept. 18, 2026 edition of The Owen News!

Building a more walkable Freedom, IN

Check out these photos showing portions of the newly completed sidewalks along U.S. 231 in Freedom. Contractor Crider & Crider, Inc. has been hard at work on the stretch between County Road 550 West and Freedom-Arney Road as part of an Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) infrastructure improvement project.

The new sidewalks, crosswalks, and updated ADA ramps are a welcome sight for pedestrian safety in town. This work is part of a $2.6 million INDOT contract awarded earlier this year in February 2026.
