KofC Marquette Council 588

KofC Marquette Council 588 We value Charity Unity Fraternity Patriotism. Our name was selected in honor of Father Jacques Marquette, a French priest and explorer.

The Knights of Columbus Marquette Council 588 serves three Roman Catholic parishes in Sussex County, NJ: Our Lady of the Lake; St Thomas of Aquin; and Immaculate Conception. The Marquette Council was chartered on June 1, 1901 and became the nation's five hundredth and eighty eighth council of the Knights of Columbus. Father Marquette, a member of the Jesuit Order, was born in France in 1637, and c

ame to the New World to teach Christianity to the Indians and to explore the new country. He settled in Canada and worked with the Indian tribes setting up missions and exploring much of the region around the Great Lakes. He died in Canada in 1675. The Council was "First" headquartered in Franklin Furnace, NJ and has used various locations in Sussex County during its long and successful history. It is currently headquartered in McKenna Hall in Sparta, NJ. During 1987, the First Degree team was certified and in early 1989 the Second Degree team was certified. The degree teams have been extremely active ever since and also hold institutional degrees for newly started councils. The Marquette Council works closely with three Parishes in Sussex County; Our Lady of the Lake in Sparta, St. Thomas in Ogdensburg and Immaculate Conception in Franklin. On February 7, 1988, the Marquette Columbiettes were chartered and in June 1989 the first Squires Circle 3734 was chartered.

On Memorial Day, the Council 588 pauses in deep reverence to honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation. 🇺🇸✨

As Knights, Patriotism is one of our core principles. We believe that loving our country means honoring those who defended it with their lives. On this day, we remember that freedom is never free—it was bought and sustained by the profound courage of our fallen heroes.

"Greater love has no nobler than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends." — John 15:13

Our council is dedicated to supporting active-duty military, veterans, and gold star families, ensuring that the legacy of these heroes is never forgotten. Today, we lift them and their families up in our prayers.

Let us commit to living out our patriotism not just in words, but through service, unity, and faith.
May God bless our fallen heroes, comfort their families, and continue to bless the United States of America. 🙏🕯️

Your Knights of Council 588 took home some awards from the 2026 New Jersey Knights of Columbus State Convention; recognized for Outstanding Website, and Support to the Roman Catholic Church. The convention was an inspiring event, and proved a great capstone to the Fraternal Year. We are excited for even greater contributions and spriritual growth through partnership with Our Lady of the Lake, St Thomas of Aquin, and Immaculate Conception parish communities, the Roman Catholic Diocese of Paterson, and our great country.
