CPT Gregory T. Dalessio

The two predominant loves of his life were his family and God.

CPT Dalessio gave his life during Operation Iraqi Freedom, when he was shot fatally after emerging from a weekly reconstruction meeting with Iraqi officials in Salman Pak, and died in the arms of a Captain who told him how much he was loved.

His decorations include the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, and the Combat Infantryman’s Badge.

He was laid to rest with full military honors in Colestown Cemetery, Camden County, NJ.

This Memorial Day, Company K-8 would like to take the time to remember and honor the Veterans and Riflemen who gave everything in service to our nation.

Chaplain Charles J. Watters (MAJ) was a Roman Catholic Priest, Army Chaplain in the Vietnam War, and a Company K-8 Pershing Rifleman.

In the battle of Đắk Tô, the unarmed Chaplain Watters disregarded himself in running towards and through enemy small arms, automatic, and mortar fire to assist in giving aid to the wounded, assisting in evacuation, and delivering last rites to the dying. This included hoisting a wounded paratrooper on his back and carrying him to safety. As the battalion pulled back to the perimeter, Chaplain Watters, despite the attempts to restrain him, left the perimeter three separate times through enemy fire to rescue left-behind wounded soldiers.
(Medal of Honor citation).

He is one of only nine Chaplains to have received the Medal of Honor. His other decorations include the Bronze Star with a Valor device, the Purple Heart, and the Air Medal.

Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial, Panel 30E, Row 036.
He is laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery, Section 2.
