OLS Food Pantry The OLS Food Pantry provides individuals and families in need with groceries intended to supplement their food supply and alleviate food insecurity.

Our focus is on caring for our patrons with good nutrition, kindness, patience, and dignity. The OLS Food Pantry helps to meet the needs of our patrons through distributions on two Saturdays per month and by responding to requests from those in need of emergency food assistance.

2020 Pantry Distributions: 8-10am, Nov. 21 & Dec. 5, 19. The OLS Food Pantry is a volunteer-led effort supported by th

e parish of Our Lady of Sorrows. Our volunteers assist by shopping, transporting, loading, unloading, sorting, stacking, packing, counting, directing traffic, greeting clients, packing cars, running food drives and more. Our volunteer team comes from the parish and surrounding community and our pantry receives food and monetary donations from many individuals, businesses and non-profit organizations in South Orange, Maplewood and beyond. Monetary donations are used to purchase food in bulk from local stores, distributors, and the Community Food Bank of New Jersey, including fresh milk and produce whenever possible. We receive no direct state aid or local governmental support. The OLS Food Pantry is a member of MEND (Meeting Emergency Needs with Dignity), a support network of 21 interfaith food pantries across Essex County. A Children’s Book Pantry is also available on site whenever our Food Pantry is open for distributions. Interested families can stop and select age appropriate books from our large collection of donated books.

😀🌟💚 As we look back on 2025, we are so grateful for the incredible support of our OLS Food Pantry community. Thanks to you, we distributed 6,318 grocery bags and served 5,225 families—more than 17,000 individuals—throughout the year. About one-third of those served were children, and nearly one-quarter were senior citizens, and every family also received fresh produce, milk, and bread 🍎🍞🥛. We were also proud to continue our 📚Children’s Book Pantry, sharing hundreds of free books with young readers. None of this would be possible without our volunteers, donors, community partners, MEND is Meeting Essential Needs with Dignity, and the parish of Our Lady of Sorrows. Thank you for helping us care for our neighbors with dignity and compassion—we couldn’t do it without you! 😀🌟💚
