The Larry Fitzgerald Foundation and Heart of Los Angeles is proud to present this two-part session, where students design and build two original video games using Construct 3, a Block Blast–style puzzle game and a Pac-Man–style maze chase game, while exploring the game design concepts and artificial intelligence (A.I.) systems that shape how players experience games. This session is being taught by TLFF award winning partner, the Hidden Genius Project.
What Students Will Learn:
-Puzzle game design fundamentals, including grid-based systems and spatial reasoning
-Pattern recognition and pattern-based mechanics
-Maze chase game mechanics, including pathfinding and tilemap systems
-Collision events, game logic, and intentional level design
-Introduction to Artificial Intelligence (A.I.) concepts in video games
-Hands-on game development using Construct 3
-Real-world A.I. recognition through gameplay of Pac-Man, the genre-defining maze chase game
-Problem-solving through iterative design and testing
Course Conclusion:
By the end of the course, students will have designed and built two original games from the ground up, a puzzle game and a maze chase game, while gaining hands-on game development skills and a real understanding of how A.I. shapes the games they play every day.
