We are heartbroken to share that Cristy Maryori Villafranca-Trejo, the wife of our client, active-duty U.S. Army Sgt. Hedar Leonel Turcios Juarez, has been deported to Honduras.

For weeks, Repatriate Our Patriots stood alongside Sgt. Turcios and his family as they fought to keep their family together. Cristy had no known criminal record, an appeal pending before the Board of Immigration Appeals, and had been waiting approximately a year for a decision on her application for Military Parole in Place.

Last week, Cristy came dangerously close to being deported. She was ultimately returned to detention. Days later, despite continued advocacy and efforts to intervene, she was removed from the United States.

Today, a Soldier who raised his right hand to serve this country is left trying to understand how he will continue fulfilling his military responsibilities while raising their 6-year-old daughter without his wife by his side.

Military families should not have to live with the uncertainty that a spouse or parent could be detained or deported while their servicemember is expected to remain mission ready.

We are deeply saddened that we were unable to bring Cristy home to her family before her deportation. But our commitment to Sgt. Turcios, Cristy, and their children does not end with her removal. We will continue standing with this family and fighting for a path that brings them back together.

And we will continue demanding answers and accountability for the growing number of military families facing detention, deportation, and separation.

Our servicemembers should not have to fight two battles — one in service to their country and another to keep their families together at home.

For the past several months, ROP has worked directly alongside Veteran Staff Sergeant Wilmer Trujillo and his wife, Arelys Barahona-Martinez.

We have supported Arelys since December 2025, when Ricardo Reyes from Vets Forward made us aware of her case. We began helping navigate a complicated immigration system while advocating to keep this military family together.

Unfortunately, we feared this could happen.

After witnessing the detention of other military spouses, including the case of Deisy Rivera Ortega—a military family we also continue to support—we knew that families like the Trujillos were increasingly vulnerable despite their deep ties to our military community and ongoing legal efforts.

Wilmer served this nation for nearly two decades in the U.S. Army and Texas National Guard, including deployments in support of Iraq and Afghanistan. Like so many military families, the Trujillos have sacrificed for this country. Today, they are asking for something simple: a fair opportunity to pursue legal relief without being separated from one another.

Thank you Senator Tammy Duckworth for continuing to stand with our Servicemembers, Veterans and Military Families.

Veteran Trujillo and his family have answered the call for decades and are part of what makes our military strong, yet this administration’s promise keeps falling short.

deserve better.

At Repatriate Our Patriots, we believe our nation has a responsibility to recognize the sacrifices of military families and pursue that keep veteran and service member families together whenever possible.

Detention is not necessary for a military family who is actively pursuing available legal remedies.

We call on immigration authorities to from detention and allow her to continue the legal process from home, where she can care for her family, work with legal counsel, and comply with all requirements of her case.

Military families have already sacrificed enough. Fair and just due process should not come at the expense of family unity.

Today we welcome the release of military spouse Deisy Rivera Ortega and the reunification of her family following coordinated advocacy efforts led alongside lawmakers, veterans, legal advocates, and community partners.

This case is a reminder that military families deserve stability, protection, and dignity while serving this nation. We remain committed to advocating for mixed-status military families and foreign-born service members who continue to face unnecessary barriers and family separation.

No service member should ever have to choose between serving their country and protecting their family.
